We had the best time at the weekend celebrating the Great Big Harvest Feast over at Shimpling Park Farm.

We first met Alice and John Pawsey, who run the farm in West Suffolk, through our pal Gerard at Salter & King Craft Butchers. You'll often find their delicious lamb and hogget in Gerard's butcher's counter.

Over our two suppers last weekend, we got our hands on some Shimpling venison and it was simply outstanding.

So good, in fact, that we've put it on this week's plat du jour!

We take martinis very seriously here at The Suffolk 🍸

We’ll make yours just how you like it, whether that’s dirty with half a jar of olive brine or light and bright with a twist.

Our personal favourite, though, is the Sur-Mertini, a stalwart of our cocktail menu since we opened in 2022.

Made with a bespoke oyster gin distilled especially for us by our friends at Fishers Gin, using oyster shells in the distillation process. It’s a rather splendid martini, served with a freshly shucked Maldon Oyster Co. oyster on the side.

This weekend we’ll be at the Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival, joining forces with our friends at 🐔

Sutton Hoo Chicken has long been a favourite in the kitchen at The Suffolk, so for this year’s we’re celebrating their brilliant Suffolk-reared chicken with two dishes from the Suffolk Horse Box.

There’ll be Sutton Hoo chicken Caesar salad, alongside something we’re serving at the festival for the very first time: Sutton Fried Chicken.

We're very lucky to have some of the finest seafood arriving in the kitchen from our friends at Steve Wightman. They also have a fishing hut just along the Crag Path from us, where you can pick up fresh fish to cook at home too.
