Work is starting on active travel improvements from Deedes Street to Stirling Street from Monday 14 September for approx. 40 weeks.

The first phase, from Glencraig Street eastwards along Alexander Street, will include pedestrian crossing and footway improvements, new street lighting and road drainage. The subsequent phases will include a new signalised junction at Alexander Street and Stirling Street, as well as active travel improvements from Glencraig Street westwards along Deedes Street.

Traffic will be managed with lane closures and temporary traffic signals, which will be manually controlled between 7am and 7pm.

This work will form part of Strategic Network Route 7, which will connect Uddingston to Caldercruix via Coatbridge and Airdrie. For more information, visit https://ow.ly/fa1x50ZMs6E

We're carrying out a review of taxi fares and asking for feedback from the licensed taxi trade across North Lanarkshire.

The proposed fare structure takes account of factors including fuel costs, insurance premiums, vehicle maintenance, licensing fees, regulatory requirements and other day to day business expenses.

WORLD SU***DE PREVENTION DAY 2026

Sometimes looking after your mental health doesn’t have to start with anything complicated. It can start with getting out the house, going for a walk, having a cuppa, or simply having a blether with somebody.

Today, on World Su***de Prevention Day, we have two Diamonds in the Community groups running in Airdrie where you can do exactly that.

☕ Chit Chat – 11.30am–1.30pm Workmens Club
🚶 Walk & Talk – leaves from outside Airdrie Workmens Club at 6:30pm

There’s no pressure to talk about mental health. You don’t need to explain why you’re there. Come for the company, the conversation, the exercise or just to get out for a wee while.

Sometimes we all need to recharge our mental battery. If you or someone you know is struggling, the graphic below includes details of organisations you can contact for confidential support.

It’s good to talk and there’s always plenty of talk at Diamonds.

FOOTBALL MEMORIES – TOMORROW!

Our Football Memories Group is back tomorrow at Airdrie Workmen’s Club, 11.30am–1.30pm, and this month we’re delighted to welcome Ronnie Boyd as our guest speaker.

Ronnie is the former Chairman of Albion Rovers and founder of their Supporters’ Trust, so there should be plenty of stories, memories and football chat to enjoy!

Our Football Memories Group is ideal for anyone who loves the game, but it’s particularly aimed at people living with memory issues, including dementia, or those experiencing social isolation.

It’s a really relaxed couple of hours. Come along, have a blether about the players, teams and matches you remember, meet some fellow football fans and enjoy a half-time pie with tea, coffee or Bovril.

Friday 4th September
11.30am–1.30pm
Airdrie Workmen’s Club

There’s no need to book — just come along.

The group is free to attend, although donations are always very welcome.

And you definitely don’t need to support Airdrie or Albion Rovers FC Official! Whatever your team, you’ll be made very welcome.
