It’s November! Spooky season is over and it’s time for a change! 🍁

But the fact of the matter is, the books won’t let me. Regardless of the time of year, the season or what everyone else is reading, you read what you want! Horror books aren’t just for Halloween! 🎃

FEBRUARY 18th 2027!!! 🌸🌺

We are so excited to be hosting the Book Release Party for Road To Odawara, the upcoming third installment in York author Poppy Kuroki’s exciting timeslip series set in Japan! 🇯🇵

Poppy Kuroki was born in Scotland and grew up in England. She lived in Japan for most of her 20s and has since moved to a beautiful city in Yorkshire, where she lives with her family. Her debut Gate To Kagoshima was published in 2024 and Passage To Tokyo in 2026.

Poppy has been an absolutely amazing supporter of Books & Bevs and we are absolutely thrilled that she has chosen us to host the launch party for Road To Odawara ❤️

Expect an in depth discussion with Poppy about the series, book signings, the writing process, a Q&A session and exclusive book bundle discounts.

We’ve been quiet on here this week but we would love to introduce our second lil bookseller! Muster the Rohirrim and please welcome Theoden to the world!

Thank you to our lovely customers who have passed on their well wishes and congratulations! We are so so happy to all be home and for Lil J to experience being the best big brother. Allie, as ever, smashed it just like she always does.

A monumental shout out and thank you to the Special Care Baby Unit at York Hospital who went above and beyond in their care for Theo and us during our extended stay. The entire team there were absolutely amazing and supportive, constantly putting our minds at ease. Please, if you are able to, see the JustGiving link in our bio to support SCBU and continue the amazing work they all do!

There will be another week of reduced hours while we take the time together as four ❤️

A HUGE thank you to everyone that came in and celebrated Bookshop Day with us at Books & Bevs! ❤️

We will now be closed until 10am Thursday 15th October! As you know we’ve been patiently awaiting the arrival of baby bookseller number 2 and it’s time to focus on that!

This coming weeks opening hours are:
Mon, Tues & Weds - CLOSED
Thurs 15th - 10am-5pm
Fri 16th - 10am-6pm
Sat 17th - 10am-4.30pm
Sun 18th - CLOSED

Those attending WHICH WITCH IS WHICH and Cheeky Budgie Halloween Clay Making Class, these events are going ahead as planned so no disruption to those!

You can still order books through here and by email but note that we may not be as speedy in response as we usually are!

🎉 Tomorrow is Bookshop Day!! 🎉

It also marks one whole year since our pop up at The Speakcheesey to see: a) if this was a viable business plan 💼 and b) if we had any idea what we were doing when we placed the book order, paired hospitality with bookselling and recommended books to customers. Turns out we did!
If you were there that evening last year or have been following since the inception, thank you for sticking around ❤️

This Saturday in celebration of Bookshop Day we’re doubling your book haul. If you buy any full price book in store tomorrow you get a pre-loved book of your choice for free! If you get 2 full price books, you get 2 pre-loved books for free! If you buy 125 full price books, you guessed it, you get 125 pre-loved books for free!
Don’t have a book in store you’re looking? We can order it in for you and you still get to take a pre-loved book home 🛍️

🚨 October Book Clubs are live! 🚨

There’s a couple of spaces left for both so grab them while you can!

For the Contemporary Fiction pick in October we have Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel! 🎭

And in the build up to Halloween and the upcoming release of the film adaptation ‘Other Mommy’ we have Incidents Around The House by Josh Malerman. 🏡

Tickets are £5 and if you need a copy of a book the fiver can be redeemed in store! Book through the Book Club page on the website!

This Friday!! 🎸

We have Chris Beckett at Books & Bevs from 7pm for an evening of gentle acoustic folk songs in celebration of his latest album release, with support from Steve Lyons!

Free entry, the coffee machine will be on for hot drinks and soft drinks also available! And if you fancy browsing the shelves and picking up a book, after enjoying an evening of listening to amazing music, you absolutely can!
