Abingdon Utd 3 Amersham 1 (Berks & Bucks Cup)
The Yellows took a well deserved 3-1 home win in drizzly conditions last night in the Berks & Bucks Cup.
If the weather couldn't make its mind up United certainly had no such doubts and despite going a goal down after five minutes immediately set about getting back into the game. They duly succeeded after only another seven minutes when Henry Bone equalised with a close in shot in the 12th minute.
United then went about their task with a real energy that has been lacking this season until now. Their efforts were duly rewarded with a penalty decision in their favour as the half progressed. Sadly unable to benefit from the penalty, the team saw out the half with a growing overall dominance.
Despite coming back out to start the second half with a clear determination to take the game by the scruff of the neck, The Yellows almost immediately had a problem to deal with as they went down to ten men as they had a player sent off for a second bookable offence.
This only seemed to spur them on still further and United set about outpassing their opponents who despite valiant attempts were left in the reinvigorated Yellows wake.
Henry Bone put them 2-1 ahead latching on to a fine through ball only several minutes later in the 54th minute. Isiah Stallone completed the scoring near the end for a well deserved victory and scenes of unbridled joy on the touchlines. Well...it had been a long time coming.

Abingdon United Football Club is pleased to confirm the appointment of Chris Hurley as it’s new first team manager.

The former Shrivenham and Brackley Town Saints manager will take charge of the squad for the first time this week ahead of Saturdays opening home game of the season against Pershore Town.

Chris, a former Abingdon United player, arrives at the Northcourt with a wealth of managerial experience having taken charge of well over 300 matches in the senior divisions of the hellenic league.

New Abingdon United FC first team manager Chris Hurley (pictured) said “ I am really excited to be back at the club. We have some fantastic young talent here and the future of the club looks very bright. I’m looking forward to working with all the players, coaches and staff.”
