The Portway Inn Hotel is a charming 16th Century Inn nestled in the beautiful Wye Valley near Staunton-on-Wye on the A438, the main Hereford to Brecon Road, approximately eight miles out of Hereford.

Perfect Sunday for lunch out! We recommend roast sirloin, always beautifully tender and full of flavour. Served on Sundays from 12pm-3pm, with a new and wider range of pub favourites from today.

Really glad to be opening again for lunch on Saturday, with the bar open all afternoon. Perfect timing for an autumn walk in the apple orchards followed by a some lovely food, a good pint, and some relaxing by the fire.

To all our brilliant customers, we hope you have all been safe and well. This has been an incredibly difficult year for everyone, and now we have to operate under the new Tier 2 restrictions. We are still working out how to deliver a great service and atmosphere in this environment so we will not be opening straight away. We do hope to open our doors as soon as possible, though! So we can get back to serving great food, great beer and a warm welcome. Take care everyone and hopefully see you soon.

As we continue to emerge post lockdown we are very happy to say Sunday lunch service returns this weekend! Lunch with be served 12pm till 2.30pm. Hope to see you then! Dinner from Monday to Saturday is between 5.30pm and 8.30pm. Please find attached our menu. Most items are available for takeaway.

We’re opening up Monday 6th July!

We are so happy to be opening our doors again Monday 6 July, and are looking forward to welcoming our lovely customers back! Safety comes first, so there will be a few changes to keep everyone healthy.

The bar will be open from 4 pm to 10pm. Food will be available from 6pm till 8pm Monday to Saturday and 12pm til 3pm on Sunday (starting 19 July) and most dishes will be available for take-away

We’ve reduced the number of tables to maintain social distancing

If you are coming for drinks only, they’ll need to be enjoyed at a table in the bar, or in our outdoor patio or our lovely garden

Please book a table for dinner or drinks so we can manage numbers, and take your contact details for track and trace; you can call us on 01981 500474 or email [email protected]

There will be a one way route in operation; please enter through the main door and exit by the door to the outdoor patio

Hand sanitiser will be available at the entrance and exit

Staff will be wearing face masks and gloves for extra safety

We will be only be taking contactless card payments - no cash

The ladies and gents will be for one customer at a time

Touch points will be cleaned regularly during opening hours

Dear customers

These are extraordinary and challenging times. We had hoped that we would be able to offer customers a takeaway option whilst the Portway bar and restaurant was closed. However this has been a fast evolving situation. New restrictions from the government, as well as details of the employment support package, have made us unable to go ahead as planned. It is with deep regret that the takeaway service will not go ahead as planned tomorrow. We remain committed to our amazing customers, and can not wait to welcome you back when the current situation passes. The Portway will be back with a warm welcome on the other side. Stay safe everyone.

To all our wonderful customers,

As you’ll all know, the government announced last night that pubs and restaurants have to close their doors for the foreseeable future. Therefore the Portway Inn bar and restaurant will be closed from today. But we will continue running our B&B business.

To keep ourselves busy, and hopefully relieve the strain for everyone of home-cooking every day, we’ll be launching a great new take away menu from Wednesday. All our usual favourites plus some take away specials. Please keep an eye out for updates and we will post the menu very soon.

This is such a tough time for everyone and we hope you all keep safe.

Covid-19 Statement

Dear all

These are challenging and concerning times for all of us, and we wanted to let you know that we are doing everything we can to protect the health and well-being of our customers and our team.

We remain open, but we’re taking a number of extra steps to keep everyone safe.

We’ve adjusted our cleaning procedures so that they now include a daily sanitising of all touch points in the building – door handles, switches, taps drawer handles etc. With additional sanitisation during the day for often-used touch points like the main doors and the customer toilets.

Our restaurant is open, but we have removed a number of tables so that customers can maintain a safe distance from each other, in accordance with guidance notes from the government. We also recommend that customers let us take table orders rather than come to the bar.

We are launching a new take away menu so that we can still feed customers who don’t want to sit in the restaurant. You can order our take away food by phone (01981 500474) or email in advance.

This is of course a difficult time but all of us. The Portway Inn would like to assure you that we will create as safe a space as possible, with a warm welcome for our customers.
