The Aberdeen based artist is influenced by 1970s singer-songwriters such as Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen and John Cale, while also drawing inspiration from 1960s rock including The Beatles, Bob Dylan and The Byrds. In 2024, Ruari McGrath released his debut album “If I Knew Your Name”. A stripped back acoustic record, “If I Knew Your
Name” is a compelling listen, full of lush melodic textures and abstract imagery.
For his next release Ruari took on a different approach. Working with Northeast musician and producer Craig John Davidson, the 2025 single “Memory” blends Ruari’s signature fingerstyle guitar and surreal, poetic lyrics with a heavier production, complete with synth and drums by session musician Xander Milne, and a cello
arrangement by Craig John Davidson.
Ruari is currently working on his second album and continuing to perform in his native Aberdeen.
