Guitarist and composer Harry Christelis presents his new album, Preserving Fictions — an exploration of how music and art can serve as a means to preserve and document the seeming truths we see, hear, feel, and experience every day. This record sees Christelis delve deeper into a sound world that has become synonymous with his name, fusing elements of jazz and folk traditions with ambient drones and delicate electronic textures to create a truly immersive listening experience. Featuring Christelis’ long-standing quartet, the highly acclaimed musicians break free from their traditional roles within the jazz idiom. Instead, they embrace a deeply communal approach to improvisation, colouring, shaping, and delineating every moment of each piece together. Across the adventurous album, the listener is taken on a journey that moves through dreamy psychedelic trips, expansive soundscapes, delicate moments of intimacy, and furious bursts of energy — all seamlessly bound by a tone that holds sombre and hopeful feelings in harmonious equilibrium.

Described as “A band about to make its mark on UK Jazz”, The Jack Pearce Quintet showcases Jack’s original compositions that pay homage to jazz traditions while injecting a fresh, inventive spirit. A band of Leeds Conservatoire Alumni, the Jack Pearce Quintet focuses on a fusion of melodic and technical excellence. Drawing influence from Post-bop and 90s world fusion, the original compositions have a uniquely open and interactive approach. The band’s strength is particularly apparent in a live setting where countless hours have been dedicated to every facet of the music, then refined on the stage, culminating in an exciting musical experience. Strong rhythms underpin vibrant, playful melodies creating a fusion complimentary to both traditional and modern jazz. Coming off the success of their first UK tour, the Jack Pearce Quintet are quickly building a reputation as a band to watch on the UK jazz scene.

Orange Claw Hammer take the music of Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band and bend it into shape for the 21st century. Founded in 2011 by musician & composer Steve Kettley (Pygmy Twylyte, Cauld Blast Orchestra, Salsa Celtica, Odd Times), the band’s sax driven, mostly instrumental reworkings of Don Van Vliet’s back catalogue highlight the blues, jazz and experimental roots of this music. A million miles from being a tribute act, Orange Claw Hammer take classics of avant-rock from the 60s through to the 80s and use them as vehicles for improvisation and re-invention for contemporary sensibilities – and Beefheart fanatics!
