I had the pleasure of receiving for the first time William Kelley, reviewer at Robert Parker/Wine Advocate. We talked a bit of everything, frost, vines, wine, a real good time. Now, I can show you his ratings:
This seven-hectare estate in Nuits-Saint-Georges is today under the direction of Clément Chicotot, who has embarked upon an ambitious viticultural program: working organically, he is planting fruit trees and experimenting with permaculture and permanent intra-row cover crops. Hedging of the canopies has been much reduced to once or twice per growing season, if at all. In the winery, some stems are retained—in general, around 50%, but there are not rules—punch-downs are carried out by hand, and there's no temperature control. Maturation is in barrels from a variety of coopers, including those of Dominique Laurent, and bottling occurs in January or February. The results of this serious and forward-thinking approach are promisingly concentrated and characterful wines, and this is clearly an address that we should be watching very closely. My
sense is that a few renements in the cellar (watching out for reduction, working on nding more synergisticcooperage, and extending the duration of élevage would be at the top of my list, were my opinion to be solicited) might catapult Domaine Chicotot to an even higher level of quality overnight.
