‼️‼️Update On Danny’s Bar‼️‼️
Hi Everyone…so…apologies for what is going to be a long post!
Firstly, people who are close, friends and customers generally know the back story to what I’m about to say (particularly if you were with us on NYE).
Approximately 2 years ago when we were in the first steps of coming out of Covid, we had a hiccup regarding my own health leading to myself, Nick & the kids needing to leave the village for what we thought was going to be a temporary period…
However several months in we were notified by the courts in Alicante that there was a problem with our landlord at the bar & his company. Basically, through the whole of the pandemic, despite him receiving all rent monies on time and in almost every case early, he decided to not pay the mortgage repayments on our property - along with several others!!!
So yes…he took the money that we had paid in good faith (not to mention a large deposit) all the way through Covid when we were mainly closed or had to operate at 30%!!!!
You can imagine the anger, frustration, turmoil for us not to mention our staff.
We went to court, proved our lease was legal and more importantly proved all monies had been paid to the Landlord who defaulted on the mortgages!
This resulted in the courts setting our case aside, but this did not stop the repossession of the several building including ours back to the banks!
The bank immediately passed the building and the mortgage debt to a notional company for management!!!
This was only the beginning of the nightmare!
We have for the last 2 years (right up to last Thursday) been in dialogue weekly via our legal team trying to get answers over our future! We understood at the time we still had a couple of years to run on our lease, however they would never obligate the court order and have constructive dialogue as to what would happen come the end of our lease.
In a nut shell they only wanted to sell (supposedly) and we were more than happy to oblige. We wanted to secure the bars future and as important our staffs future!
Sadly though, we have been for two years banging our head against a brick wall with stupidly inflated figures to buy the building, weeks with no dialogue, non return of emails, different points of contact, false promise after false promise…and greed. We have fought tooth & nail to get a resolution at great cost with solicitors and legal advise. But sadly as I write this as of Thursday this week it all looks to no avail!
For absolute clarity our wonderful staff we call close friends/family have been with us every step of the way, we have told them every single detail as it happens! We have even looked extensively at alternative venus for the bar in the village and outside, but we haven’t been able to find anything suitable or available if suitable.
The other massive disappointment, but sadly no surprise is the absolute disgrace our staff have had to endure during this process (by a minority) regularly hearing over the last two years in-accurate rumours regarding the bar, our business but more importantly our staffs security in their work! Rumours made either out of spite or absolute ignorance! Vindictive rumours that were put out by a select few designed to rock them! But they remained resolute and I can’t thank them all enough from the bottom of our hearts.
It would have honestly been far easier to walk away during Covid not to mention this complete nightmare situation….but the bond we have with our staff and our fantastic customers kept us fighting right til now!!!
This situation has all but stopped any investment in the cosmetic/asthtics of the bar and any long term future plans as at any moment over the last two years it could all be taken away from us!
I usual plan 12 months in advance all entertainment/events/menus etc etc but due to this situation we have only been able to do this on an ad-hoc basis because of this hanging over us!!
We have invested at the start and throughout the years a lot of blood, sweat, tears and ultimately a large financial commitment which has now come to a head!
For this reason it absolulty saddens me & my family to have to write that Danny’s will close its doors on Monday April 8th if no resolution is met next week!
It leaves me to say, I can’t thank our wonderful staff enough and you our fantastic customers. Its been a brilliant if not eventful/turbulent 5 years that my family have had the pleasure to share with you all……. but most importantly at Danny’s we just wanted to bring a family feel venue with some of the best acts the Costa had to offer! Nights you’d expect on the coast brought to our little village, great nights to remember…memories…
I hope we did that a little bit over the years…
Please keep supporting our entertainment/food & drinks on our final road…
Join us & our staff for an informal goodbye drink and 😢 and celebrate “our Kenny’s” birthday Friday 5th April…
‼️All other events/entertainment/quiz nights and kitchen days remain the same until Monday April 8th‼️
Once again thank you everyone…signing out for one last time…and hopefully catch you all on the other side…
Love as always!
