Vintage Design

This large 'Saturno' lamp was designed by Kazuo Motozawa from Japan, and was manufactured in Germany by Staff in 1972. Made from chromed metal, the lamp features four light sources inside and is heavy.

Rare hour glass-shaped opaque white Murano glass lamp designed by Carlo Nason for A.V Mazzega. Made in Italy, circa 1968. Two handblown glass chambers joined by central stainless steel collar with stainless tightening bolts; Chambers may be lit independently or together. This particular lamp was conceived for a nightclub in Milan in the late 1960s.

Miguel Milá was born into a Catalan aristocratic family with strong links to the artistic world. He started working as an interior designer in his brother's architecture studio (Alfonso Milá and Federico Correa) towards the end of the 1950s, a time of crisis when Spain was not accustomed to industrial design. There was a lack of industry, with most items being handmade, and this framework marked the way Milá understood design, being closer to traditional techniques. Despite the shortage of objects, means, and raw materials of the time, Milá started designing lamps and furniture, and soon manufactured within his own company, Tramo, a venture set up with two friends, architects F. Ribas Barangé and E. Pérez Ullibari. Out of Tramo he developed the previous versions of the famous TMC and TMM lamps (1958 and 1961), pieces that are still selling today. Attribution

Vintage Design

This lamp was designed by Miguel Milá circa 1960 and was manufactured by Tramo in Spain in the same period. This lamp is made from a wooden structure and a plastic lampshade. Miguel Milá belongs to the pioneering generation of the 1950s, and his works being representative of Spanish mid-century design. He was born into a Catalan aristocratic family with strong links with the artistic world (his ancestors commissioned Gaudí to design the Milá House, also known as La Pedrera), and started working as an interior designer in the architecture studio of his brother Alfonso Milá and Federico Correa. Milá started designing lamps and furniture, that he soon founded in his own manufacturing company, Tramo. Miguel Milá set up this company with two friends, architects F. Ribas Barangé and E. Pérez Ullibari. He developed many iconcs including the TMC and TMM lamps (1958 and 1961), which are still in production. Miguel Milá joined the designers and architects in Barcelona to discuss modernist architecture. These meetings culminated in the foundation of the ADI-FAD, together with Antoni de Moragas, André Ricard, Bohigas, Cirici Pellicer, Manel Cases, and Rafael Marquina. From the beginning, this association sought to export Spanish design, and to make a connection between young Spanish professionals and international design.
"I am in reality a pre-Industrial designer", Milá stated. "I feel more comfortable with the technical procedures that allow correcting failures, experimenting during the process, and controlling it to the maximum. That is where my preference for noble materials comes from, the preference for materials that know how to age." This can be seen in the wooden Cesta lamps (1964), the reed Manila lamp (1961); the M68 lamp, made out of aluminium (1968); and the lamp series Americana with natural linen shades. In 1987, he was awarded with the Premio Nacional de Diseño and in 2008 reward the Compasso d'Oro in recognition of his design and of his contribution to the promotion of Spanish design.

This 'Cestita' lamp was designed by Miguel Milá, circa 1962 and was manufactured by Tramo in Spain. The piece features a bamboo structure and plastic shade. Originally, this model was made in two different sizes, this is the small one.

Milá strongly represents Spanish contemporary design, belonging to the Pioneer's generation of the 1950s. Born in a Catalan aristocratic family with strong links with the artistic world (his ancestors assigned the Milá House, also known as La Pedrera, to Gaudí), he started working as an interior designer in the architecture studio of his brother Alfonso Milá and Federico Correa. A this time Spain had little industry and most furniture was handmade, marking the way Milá understood design, being closer to traditional techniques. Despite the shortage of objects, means and raw materials of the time, Milá started designing lamps and furniture, soon manufacturing in his own company, Tramo.

Milá participated with the designers and architects of that period in the first meetings in Barcelona to discuss modernity in architecture, out of which came the question of how to promote design and implant its professional practice. These meetings culminated in the foundation of the ADI-FAD, together with Antoni de Moragas, André Ricard, Bohigas, Cirici Pellicer, Manel Cases and Rafael Marquina.
