Afro-Colombians have always resisted.
And our rhythms carry that memory.
Cumbia, Champeta, Bullerengue, Salsa — these aren’t just genres.
They are stories.
Born from struggle,
Shaped by resistance,
Passed down in spite of erasure.
We are not a stereotype or your exotic fantasy.
Every step we dance is a reminder
that our bodies are archives of resistance.
That joy is political.
That our music is a tool of survival,
not just entertainment.
Latin America and Africa are still healing
from colonial trauma, systemic racism, and cultural erasure.
But through gatherings like this,
we remind ourselves:
We are still here, still dancing, still decolonising.
Maybe you don't understand yet.
Maybe it all feels like just fun tunes to dance to.
But we encourage you to read a little into the history
of Africa and Latin America —
and the impact that European and Catholic powers had on us.
It’s not just music.
GRACIAS to every single person who came,
danced, shouted, sang, performed,
or helped us put this together.
Love you all.
