DJ Firmeza b2b DJ N***a Fox
For the first time ever, DJ Firmeza and DJ N***a Fox go back-to-back at Open Ground on Saturday 3 October. This night gets to the heart of Lisbon’s thriving Afro-Portuguese dance music scene with two masters of batida — the kuduro-born club sound forged in the city’s Quinta do Mocho estate. DJ N***a Fox is the avant-garde producer whose debut record O Meu Estilo put Príncipe on the international map, (and he carries a restless, high-voltage sound) and whose DJ sets are celebrated as psychedelic literature for the dancefloor. DJ Firmeza is a master of a unique, percussive-heavy, trance-inducing approach to the art of mixing. Expect raw, unrelenting batida and a stack of unreleased weapons.
Both artists have a home at Príncipe Discos one of Europe’s most exciting record labels. The label’s co-founder José Moura says batida blew his mind the first time he heard it: „We couldn’t pinpoint it. We thought, this is really something we’ve never heard before. It’s not techno, it’s not house, it’s nothing that we know about.” Originating in Luanda, Angola, it evolved into a vibrant underground movement in the suburbs of Lisbon, Portugal, driven by 140 BPM rhythms blending traditional Angolan and Cape Verdean styles (like kuduro, tarraxinha, funaná, and semba) with modern techno and house production.
