WE WELCOME KHANDAMA TUDEBEI, OUR NEW WELTOFFENES BERLIN FELLOW, February 2026 - January 2027

Khandama Tudebei is a Berlin-based cultural practitioner from Buryatia, whose research engages Buryad diasporic communities across Mongolia, Europe, and East Asia. Her work focuses on how language transforms through migration while continuing to shape senses of belonging. She is a co-founder of the Buryad Centre in Mongolia and collaborates with decolonial cultural organisations in Berlin.Tudebei has delivered lectures and participated in public discussions at institutions such as Humboldt University in Berlin, alongside international forums focused on decolonisation, language activism, and cultural resistance. Her work moves between research, education, and public programming, often bringing language into shared spaces through workshops, readings, and collaborative projects.

The scholarship is supported by the Fellowship Program “Weltoffenes Berlin” by the Senate Department for Culture and Europe.

✨ Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first residency event of the New Year✨

We were thrilled to host the inspiring artist talk and workshop “Kholodets Publishing House” with Maxim Poleacov and Luiza Sim. Participants explored hectography, a manual printing technique, and its “underground” background, while reflecting on their personal interpretations of a ‘house’ and a ‘home’.

Stay tuned for more events soon!

The residency is supported by ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen).

RESIDENCY EVENT: MAXIM POLEACOV, “KHOLODETS PUBLISHING HOUSE”, ARTIST TALK & WORKSHOP

🗓️15 January 2026
🕕Doors open at 17:30. Event starts at 18:00.
Language: English
Artist talk: free admission.
Workshop: registration through Linktree in bio.

In the workshop, led by our memeber of residency and mentorship program, Maxim Poleacov and Luiza Sim, participants are invited to experiment with hectography-a gelatin-based manual method of printing. Using a homemade 'printer on a plate', literally prepared in the kitchen, participants will become familiar with the possibilities of such simple techniques, which create a space for interaction and discussion about collective perceptions around words 'home' and 'house'.

The residency is supported by ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen).

Domaći kholodets can be translated from an interslavic incarnation as homemade aspic. By unpacking the references and meanings within this meta-linguistic construction, Maksim Poleacov in collaboration with Luiza Sim explores the central word Dom, which carries two coexisting meanings: home and house. In the workshop, cooking kholodets becomes a metaphor. Instead of meat and bones, artists use examples of Plattenbau as the main ingredients. Built on an industrial, assembly-line scale, Plattenabu meets basic human needs, shaping everyday life and the cycle of celebrations—Christmas, New Year, Christmas again, and the Old New Year. Inside, people cook kholodets with their families. But what if kholodets were no longer a dish, but a publishing house?

WE WELCOME MAXIM POLEACOV, OUR NEW RESIDENT NOVEMBER 2025-JANUARY 2026

Maxim Poleacov was born in Tiraspol and currently works in Chisinau (Moldova) as cultural operator, publisher, organizer and coordinator of 3rd Space Studio — communal workshop for diverse practices related to DIY Printed Matter. Maxim's current research focuses on methodologies for ‘samizdat’ (low-run self-publishing), and approaches this practice primarily not in the way of object fetisization, but as a platform to build and develop conversations, social situations, and communication spaces. Examples include grassroots editorial experiments and distribution centers, open studios and temporary services such as pop-up cafes or libraries. He examines how publishing becomes a means of communication and a tool for organizing collectives.

The residency is supported by ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen).
