Preserving the Original – A Special Gaveau Grand Piano
Every piano has its own history – and sometimes, even the smallest details tell a story.
This customer entrusted us with the restoration and refelting of the hammers from a beautiful Gaveau grand piano. What makes this set particularly special is the original treatment of the hammer heads in the bass: the felt had been carefully trimmed on both sides.
Our goal at ABEL HAMMER COMPANY was clear: to preserve the character and appearance of the original hammers as faithfully as possible.
That is why we reproduced this distinctive bass trimming exactly as it was found on the original hammer heads.
For us, restoring hammers is not simply about replacing felt. It is about respecting the instrument's history, preserving its original character, and bringing the craftsmanship of the past back to life.
With the right materials, precision and attention to detail, even historic hammer heads can be given a new life – while remaining true to their origins.
