The English Theatre Frankfurt plays a pivotal role in the cultural life of Frankfurt, a city with the largest proportional international community in Germany. The theatre has become an important landmark for the Frankfurt-Rhein-Main region, due to its consistent, high-quality standards, international flair and function as a meeting point for people of all nationalities. The Hessen government have referred to it as a beacon for the whole region. The English Theatre presents a diverse program of its own productions for a broad audience. The shows offer a wealth of entertainment on a high level. The English Theatre produces at least five plays per season. This includes classics, comedies, thrillers, contemporary plays and musicals. The casting and rehearsal of the theatre´s own productions are held in London.

70% of the visitors to the English Theatre are German speakers and the remaining 30% stems from the large English-speaking community in and around Frankfurt. The theatre’s auditorium seats 300 and makes use of the latest audio-visual technical equipment. The adjacent bar, James, has two floors equipped with cosy but contemporary furniture, which underlines the unique atmosphere of the theatre itself.

Three days to go. And, naturally, everything is completely under control.

Last week, while our technicians put the finishing touches to the stage, our cast of Single Spies were getting acquainted with a world of spies, secrets and respectable gentlemen.

The setting? James the Bar — which also, rather conveniently, doubles as a rehearsal space extraordinaire. One makes do.

Single Spies is Alan Bennett’s two-play bill about members of the Cambridge Five, the British establishment figures who secretly passed information to the Soviet Union.

These shots are from Act Two, A Question of Attribution, centred on Sir Anthony Blunt — art historian, Surveyor of the Queen’s Pictures… and Soviet spy.

A few glimpses of the stage and tech team included, too.

Showtime in three days (19.9.!). All (almost all) of the secrets to be revealed soon.

The secrets are starting to emerge…

Rehearsals are well underway for SINGLE SPIES, Alan Bennett’s deliciously witty double bill about spies, secrets, loyalty and betrayal.

Two plays. Two very different stories. And a world where nothing — or no one — is quite what they seem.

Here’s a little glimpse into the rehearsal room as the company brings AN ENGLISHMAN ABROAD and A QUESTION OF ATTRIBUTION to life.

Last day of „Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors.” ❤️‍🩹

It’s always strange when the final day arrives. After all the rehearsals, long days, laughter, nerves, discoveries, and those little moments no audience ever sees… suddenly, it’s time to let it go.

So before we close the coffin for the last time, here are a few behind-the-scenes memories from our journey.

And most of all, a huge and heartfelt thank you to our fantastic cast. ❤️ You brought these characters to life with so much talent, dedication, generosity, and heart. It has been an absolute joy to watch you create this world together.

Thank you to everyone who made this production what it was — onstage, backstage, and in the audience.

What a beautiful, dark, unforgettable ride.

New beginnings, made possible by old and new friends.

On Monday, we had the wonderful pleasure of celebrating our return to our home at the Gallileo and the beginning of our new season, 2026/27, together with US Consul General Brian Heath and an intimate group of friends, supporters, partners, and members of our community.

Returning to the Gallileo means so much more than returning to a building. It means coming home to a place where, for decades, stories have been shared, friendships formed, and people from Frankfurt’s cultural, international, and business communities have come together.

We are immensely grateful to our longstanding friends, whose loyalty and support have carried us through challenging times, and to our new friends, whose trust, enthusiasm, and generosity are helping us shape our future.

A very special thank you to Brian Heath and the US Consulate General Frankfurt for their longstanding friendship and support — and for bringing us together to celebrate this very special homecoming. It was a wonderful evening — celebrating not only a new season, but a renaissance for the English Theatre Frankfurt.

As „Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors“ brings our old season to a close and gives us a taste of what’s to come, we are warming up for the official start of Season 2026/27 on September 19 — with „Single Spies!“

Here’s to new beginnings — and the friends who make them possible!

Am Samstag, 26. September um 14 Uhr kommen professionelle Slammer auf die Bühne und präsentieren Texte, die speziell für ein junges Publikum geschrieben sind.

Und danach heißt es: Kinder an die Macht! 👑 Die Kids dürfen mitentscheiden, bewerten und ihre Meinung abgeben.

Museumsuferfest kicked off last night — and this weekend, The James, the bar at English Theatre Frankfurt, is taking up residence by the river.

Come find our tent next to Hohlbeinsteg, on the Sachsenhäuser side and hang out with the James team, grab a drink, soak up the festival atmosphere and enjoy the view.

After a tumultuous year, we’re finally announcing the winners of last year’s Museumsuferfest quiz! 🎉

And who better to do it than Liam Hubband and Briana Kelly, who both starred in „Something Rotten!“ and are now haunting the stage in “Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors“ — running through September 6! 🧛‍♂️🩸
