AUSTRIAN SUSTAINABILITY AWARD 2022

Our colleagues Thomas Wrbka, Florian Danzinger, Stefan Fuchs and Ina Hahn (University of Vienna - Biodiversity Dynamics and Conservation) as well as project manager Christopher Marrs (TU Dresden) were invited to the Austrian Sustainability Award 2022 representing the MaGICLandscapes project consortium. Yesterday, the awards were presented at the TMW - Technisches Museum Wien in the presence of federal ministers Leonore Gewessler and Martin Polaschek by the Forum Umweltbildung.
Interreg CE Magiclandscapes was awarded in the category "International Cooperation". We are very happy about this award!

The Sustainability Award, an Austria-wide competition for universities has been jointly announced every two years since 2008 by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) and the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) and awarded for particularly innovative and sustainable projects.

GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE TO PREVENT WIND EROSION

Just recently, the Austrian MaGICLandscapes' case study "Eastern Wald- & Western Weinviertel" experienced repeated strong winds causing massive events of soil erosion on arable land, removing most valuable humus for local agricultural production.

Green Infrastructure can not only reduce wind erosion and prevent damage due to flooding, but also improves soil and water
quality. It creates a more diverse habitat, which has a positive impact on biodiversity and related ecosystem services such as pollination and natural pest control.
