A key figure in Berlin’s musical communities, Sam Barker has continually pushed against the boundaries and conventions of techno music. He has produced groundbreaking releases for the likes of Smalltown Supersound, including 2025’s Stochastic Drift, as well as for Ostgut Ton. He co-founded the club night and record label Leisure System, and remains committed to collaboration and experimentation: His recent projects—including collaborations with Kay Sievers, AKA Version Duo, as well as with Norwegian saxophonist Bendik Giske—have done as much for acoustic science as they have for music.

It was only a matter of time until we locked him in for 180 minutes. His ongoing prioritization of live performance over DJing triggered an invitation to the Zenner Saal, and we are extremely proud and excited to welcome him for this rare and intimate evening of uninterrupted live performance.

The night will also feature Discrete Ensemble, a collaborative installation between Sam Barker and Kay Sievers featuring 8 automated acoustic string instruments. Billed as a living sound sculpture where every step transforms the music, it promises to elevate the 180 minutes experience to new heights of immersive sonic exploration.

Support on the night comes from Tokyo-based synth artist and MUTEK regular: machìna.

Analogue Foundation presents Anna von Raison
April 2nd, 7pm at Zenner Berlin

ANNA VON RAISON (AVR) is a multi-genre producer exploring on the intersection of art and music, innovation and tradition. During her academic classical- and jazz piano studies in Amsterdam and New York, AVR started to produce anthems for the new feeling- everything-all-the-time internet era on her laptop. Often compared to artists like Devonté Hynes, James Blake, Sampha, Grimes and FKA twigs. The multi-genre producer has since scored films for brands like Louis Vuitton and Dior, worked as a studio pianist, producer and remixer for artists like Charlotte Gainsbourg, Tusks, Soundwalk Collective and Franny London. She consults and performs in fine arts context, e.g. at Gropius Bau Berlin, for the US artist Asad Raza at the ‘Cleveland Triennial’ and works as music curator, recently for Berlin’s ‘Long Night of Museums’ and performed at the National Gallery. Her song ‘Under The Sand’ is on the official soundtrack of the US movie ‘After Everything’. In spring 2024, her rework of Philip Glass’ ‘Etude No.2’ got released on Glass’ label ‘Orange Mountain Music’ alongside an immersive video in collaboration with French fashion house MUGLER

Analogue Foundation presents ‘James Turrell: Passageways’ (A short film by Carine Asscher)
April 2nd, 7pm at Zenner Berlin

“I didn’t want my work to be about light; I wanted to work with light itself, to materialize it”.

Passageways explores the artistic universe of James Turrell, a major American Land Art artist
who uses light and space as his primary media. The film offers an immersion into his singular
approach through the Skyspace work Second Meeting and his monumental project Roden
Crater, located in the Arizona desert.
Rather than adopting a comprehensive biographical approach, the film privileges a perceptual
and spiritual experience, uncovering the deep connections between Turrell’s
art and the ancestral cosmogonies of the American desert.

Duration: 26 mins.
Produced by C.A. Productions & Centre Pompidou.
Film still: James Turrell ‘Skyspace Second Meeting’ shot by Carine Asscher.

Analogue Foundation presents Laurel Halo ‘Midnight Zone’ (Original score to the film by Julian Charrière)
April 2nd, 7pm at Zenner Berlin

Midnight Zone is the latest major film production by Julian Charrière, guided by the light of a wayward Fresnel lighthouse lens sinking down the water column above the Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ). Stretching between Hawaii and Mexico, this vast abyssal plain in the central Pacific Ocean is home to one of the most mineral-rich deep-sea regions on Earth. The presence of these dense deposits of polymetallic nodules has made it an intense point of economic interest in recent decades.

The film stages an ambiguous investigation into the extractivist threats the Area faces, by illuminating not the desirous seafloor, but the scintillating life-forms which occupy the waters above it. With a custom-built Fresnel lens, Charrière ignites an abyssal campfire, attracting a menagerie of oceanic creatures whose fate would be inevitably disrupted by underwater mining operations.

As underwater species gather and disperse around the drifting light, the film acquires an anti-gravitational quality, dissolving any clear sense of orientation. No longer detached observers, we drift into the scene itself, moving with the beacon in a destabilizing choreography where light, life, and viewer are entangled in shared suspension.

She has presented work around the world at venues such as the Barbican Centre, Ina-GRM, the Sydney Opera House, Kölner Philharmonie, and the Julia Stoschek Foundation. She has collaborated with musicians, artists and designers including Moritz von Oswald, Metahaven, Kevin Beasley, Julia Holter, Hanne Lippard, John Cale, Hodgeand the London Contemporary Orchestra.
