The Moscow Mule was born in the United States in the early 1940s, not Moscow. The classic story connects John G. Martin, who was trying to popularize Smirnoff vodka, with Jack Morgan, owner of Hollywood’s C**k ’n’ Bull pub and producer of ginger b**r.

Vodka, ginger b**r and lime came together and the distinctive copper mug helped turn the drink into a marketing icon.
