The cross in me by Milan Cieslar
“The paintings were created out of the need to support women in Poland. They want to make decisions about their bodies and lives but they cannot. They are in a situation where they are not free to make decisions about their future, which is connected to their pregnancy. Abortion
is illegal in Poland. In a strongly Catholic country where
the cross rules, women have this symbol in their va**na,
it controls them. I have visually linked these powerful symbols. I created a low relief on a solid paper with paper and tape and then photographed and graphically edited it”.
