A Love Letter from Magic Bar
After more than three unforgettable years, I am sharing some bittersweet news: Magic Bar will be closing its doors.
2025 was a record year for us, and it brought with it so many incredible nights with all of you. The laughter, the conversations, the music, the familiar faces, and the new ones—it has meant more to us than I can put into words. Magic Bar became what it was because of you.
From a purely business perspective, Magic Bar performed exceptionally well. With a gross margin of around 75% and an earnings-before-tax margin of approximately 23%, this would be considered a thriving restaurant almost anywhere in the world. Unfortunately, running a restaurant fully by the book in Northern Cyprus has proven to be unsustainable for a small, independent business like mine.
Over time, we have faced an increasing number of taxes, government fees, and retroactive charges. Some of these taxes should not apply to us, as we have always operated legally and transparently. However, the system assumes that businesses underreport income and applies additional burdens accordingly—even when that is not the case. Many of these costs are calculated on revenue rather than profit, meaning that regardless of how responsibly you operate, you are penalized simply for doing business.
In short, trying to run a business the right and legal way here comes with a cost that I can no longer carry.
That said, what remains far stronger than the frustration is our gratitude.
We are deeply thankful for every guest who walked through our doors, every regular who made Magic Bar feel like home, and every night that turned into something special. You brought warmth, energy, and joy into this place, and that is what I will remember most.
Thank you for supporting us, celebrating with us, and being part of our journey. Magic Bar was never just a restaurant—it was a community, and we feel incredibly lucky to have shared it with you.
With love and appreciation,
Annica and the Magic Bar Team
