The building that houses Sasha’s Restaurant and Bar was built in 1921 and was the former home of T.V. Soong, financier and official of the Chinese Nationalist government between 1927 and 1949. played a significant role in 20th century history. He was a signatory to the 1942 Declaration by the United Nations, was instrumental in securing Chiang Kai-shek's release in the “Xian Incident” and was once
reputed to have been the richest man in the world.
“Paul” T.V. Soong was also the eldest sibling of the Soong Family, “the clan that changed China”. The Soong sisters Soong Ai-ling, Soong Ching-ling and Soong Mei-ling and their husbands H.H. Kung, Sun Yat-sen and Chiang Kai-shek were frequent visitors to the house and were amongst China's most significant political figures of the early 20th century. Sasha’s offers a unique western dining and drinking experience in this historical setting and the biggest beer garden in Shanghai. Lunch is available Monday to Friday and Brunch is available on weekends.
