Salento ☀️
Loved from far away.
Three weeks of slow life,
and lucky enough to call it home.
Delicious food.
Chaotic conversations.
Coffee all day, and somehow all night.
Sugar for breakfast.
Too many gelati.
€1.30 caffè.
Parents, cousins, family expanding.
Old faces. New faces.
Some people better, some worse,
some no longer there.
Saying ci vediamo
and wondering when “see you” really means.
Nothing is ever really a problem here.
Except deciding where to swim.
That’s serious drama.
Salty hair.
Lots of mussels.
More sagre.
Pizzica.
Balla ca te passa.
Dinner at 10:30pm.
The smell of fresh tomatoes.
The smell of fire burning.
The smell of heat.
The smell of the sea.
And somewhere between all of it,
the hidden tears
and the salty water.
Because going home is not always about a place.
Sometimes it’s about remembering who you were,
who you are,
and who you want to become.
I want my little one to know this feeling.
To know where we come from.
To taste it.
To smell it.
To hear the chaos.
To feel the warmth.
To know that there is another piece of the world
where he will always be welcome,
where he belongs,
and where he will always be loved.
Some memories are too precious to keep to yourself.
You carry them home,
and pass them on.
Salento,
until next time. 🤍 🕷️
