This Isn’t Goodbye — It’s See You Soon
This is one of those messages that’s hard to write, even harder to shorten, and impossible not to feel.
The Hai at 35 Yongjia Road is closing its doors for good.
That part is real, final, and emotional. This room — these walls — have seen everything. Loud nights and quiet ones. First drinks, last drinks, and countless “okay, one more.” Questionable karaoke choices, long talks at the bar, friendships that started as strangers and somehow turned into family.
What began as “let’s open a bar” turned into a place where people celebrated birthdays, survived breakups, met best friends, met partners, met future roommates, or just escaped the day for a few hours. You didn’t just come to The Hai — you shaped it. The vibe, the memories, the stories — all of it was you.
And yes… somewhere along the way, it seems some people decided Shanghai didn’t quite have enough coffee shops, so here we are. Life has a sense of humor like that.
But here’s what matters most:
this is not the end of The Hai.
We’re already actively working behind the scenes to find our next venue and bring the fun back as soon as possible. Same heart, same chaos, same people — just a new home. This location is closing, but The Hai is very much alive.
The practical details:
We’ll be open until the end of February, and we’ll be announcing our final party very soon. This place deserves a proper send-off — together, with drinks raised, stories shared, and maybe one last terrible karaoke song.
Thank you for every night you spent with us, every friend you brought through the door, every memory you helped create. This isn’t goodbye.
It’s see you soon.
With love,
Angel · Celine · Dan · Jason & of course Nikko 🍻
