It has been a while since we at Garçoa last visited the region of Idukki in Kerala. Today I am travelling to the 100 cacao producers of HOPS and .india in the hills of Idukki.
The visit starts straight away with a farmers’ gathering together with Luca from GoGround. The main topic: pest management in organic farming. During the rainy season in particular, Black Pod Disease attacks the plants and poses a major challenge for the producers.
Of course I have chocolate with me. For the Indian palate, our Garçoa Idukki 78% is very intense and has «very little sugar». Yet when compared to chocolates from Uganda, Peru and Guatemala, it is still their absolute favourite, as it is made from their own cacao.
