Hi,

I want to share a clear update on Hermann’s Jazz Club and View Street Social.

The community response has been incredible:
• Over $500,000 pledged
• Approximately $480,000 verified
• More than $292,000 already collected

That’s real momentum, but we are not saved yet.

Pledges are not the same as funds in the bank. We must reach $450,000 in collected funds by April 26 to move forward.

When I joined the board in August 2024, I found a very difficult situation, no financial statements for years, GST unfilled since 2022, significant debt, and major deferred repairs.

We immediately began filing and paying current obligations and working to stabilize operations. Before we could address the historical debt, the CRA issued a demand, and the Board voted to close. Staff were given notice on March 19, with closure set for April 30.

This campaign is the only path to change that outcome.

All funds being collected are held in a separate account, not used for operations, and will be fully refunded if we do not reach the target.

If successful, funds will go toward debt, critical repairs, and creating a path to reopen. That said, both venues would still need to close for 3–6 months for necessary work.

Rebuilding this organization properly, with transparency, structure, and accountability, is just as important as saving it.

We heard you. Now we need you!

Over the past few days, we’ve received an incredible number of emails, messages, and conversations from people who care deeply about Hermann’s and View Street Social.

One thing has been clear in all of them:

You want a chance to save it.

So we’re giving you that chance.

Today, we’re launching a community pledge campaign to raise $450,000, the amount needed to stabilize the organization, pay down inherited debt, and repair the long-neglected building and equipment.

If we reach that goal, Hermann’s and View Street Social will reopen on solid ground.

If we don’t, they will close.

This is not about building something new.

This is about preserving something that already matters to you, to musicians, and to this city.

For 45 years, Hermann’s has been a place where music lives.

Dear Friends, Supporters, and Community,

We’re writing to share an important and difficult update.

After prudent deliberation, the Board of Directors has made the decision to wind down operations and close Arts On View Society, Hermann’s Jazz Club, and View Street Social. Our final day of operations will be April 30, 2026.

This was not a decision we arrived at lightly. Over the past 18 months, we have worked hard to stabilize the organization, improve operations, and explore every reasonable path forward. While we made meaningful progress, the financial challenges we inherited from previous leadership proved too significant to overcome in a sustainable way.

We know how much Arts On View, Hermann’s Jazz Club, and View Street Social have meant to all of you as a place to gather, to experience music and art, and to connect with one another. That’s what makes this especially difficult.

What we are most proud of is the community that formed around this space. The artists who performed here, the staff who gave their energy and care, and the audiences who showed up night after night. You are what made these experiences special.

Over the coming weeks, we will be completing a structured wind-down of operations. Any remaining scheduled events will be communicated about directly, and we will continue to share updates as needed.

We want to sincerely thank you for your support over the years. Whether you attended a show, performed on our stage, volunteered your time, or simply helped spread the word, you played a part in what Arts On View, Hermann’s Jazz Club, and View Street Social became.

This is not the ending anyone hoped for, but we are deeply grateful for everything that was created together and the memories we all share.
