Yesterday the Huntingdon Manor Hotel welcomed residents and local business representatives to unveil their Dr. Bonnie Henry Commemorative Community Garden. The community garden was created as a response to the pandemic and provides free space for low-income residents and seniors in James Bay to grow food. In recent years, the hotel has been involved in a series of green initiatives, and it is now Biosphere Certified, recipient of 4 Green Keys Status, and winner of the 2019 Greenest Lodging Ecostar Award.

🇨🇦 Thank goodness, Sir John A. Macdonald was a drunk! Macdonald’s fondness for gin and days-long benders could have potentially been a national security risk. But in June of 1866, during the Fenian Raid, the first Canadian Prime Minister’s binge drinking may have proved helpful. It is speculated that had the colony’s Minister of Militia, “Old Tomorrow“, been sober, he would’ve actually made things worse! If the insurgents had been successful in their scheme to seize Britain's newest dominion and sell it back to Queen Victoria in exchange for the Emerald Isle and Irish Independence, we may not be celebrating the country as we know it and call home today. So cheers to the Right Honourable Sir John Alexander Macdonald, the dominant figure of Canadian Confederation, and his love of gin! Happy Canada Day everyone! 🍸🍸🍸

We’ve never had an exhibit like Sacred Journey. At over 1200 square feet it is the largest exhibit we’ve hosted in the Clifford Carl Hall, no admission required.

Featuring stories from Haida Gwaii to Seattle and beyond, Sacred Journey highlights the revival of the traditional ocean-going canoe in coastal communities across the Pacific Northwest. Used for everything from sustenance to social ceremonies and of course transport, the resurgence of canoe journeys represents a return to traditions that were suppressed by decades of colonialism.

Come learn how these sacred journeys continue to empower and inspire in the modern day.
