The American is a sports and games focused pub located on Main street. The room is an open concept communal atmosphere with several long tables perfect for big groups and parties. We have pinball, skeeball, pool, basketball and football with more arcade games to come. The bar carries a variety of craft beer and cocktails. As of September 2019 Downlow Burgers has been operating The American kitchen

. If you like burgers this is the one to try. "Smashing a burger reduces how much the meat is touched, plus we season our meat to order, preserving that flavour and texture as much as possible! [We] are proud to use exclusively local, hormone free, GMO free, grass raised beef that has been aged for a minimum of 40 days by our friends Two Rivers Meats. In North Vancouver. [Our] buns come from baker extraordinaire Livia Sweets located on Commercial drive. Everything else is made in house other than the ketchup. . . Heinz does too good a job and if it ain't broke. . . Planning a special event, we do staff parties, wrap parties, holiday functions, birthdays and more, with a number of catering options available.' "

🚨 FREE EVENT ALERT 🚨 Chaos. Art. (Slight) Public humiliation. Drawing From Memory is back at American on June 1st and this round, is bringing her equally unhinged partner-in-crime to judge, roast, and emotionally damage your artwork in real time.

Here’s how it works:
You get 15 minutes to draw whatever cursed prompt they throw at you. Think: “sexy Shrek,” “your sleep paralysis demon,” and other beautifully questionable 19+ masterpieces.

When the timer’s up, Colleen + Randy will crown the winners, roast the losers, and probably discover things about your psyche you didn’t want exposed publicly.

Best drawing of the night wins a special prize AND becomes next month’s official poster art

After an incredible 6 and a half years together, DownLow Burgers and The American will be going their separate ways. final day with us will be Sunday, April 26th. We’re so grateful to Doug, Lindsey, and the entire DownLow team for everything they’ve brought to our space over the years. It’s been a great run, and we’re excited to see what’s next as they get ready to open at Time Out Market Vancouver this spring.

As for us, The American will be launching a new food concept on Thursday, April 30th. While we make the switch, our kitchen will be closed from Monday, April 27th, through Wednesday, April 29th, but don’t worry, we’ll have a food truck parked outside to keep you fed in the meantime. More to come on that soon!

Great news! On April 27th we’re launching a new monthly drawing night, we’re creatively calling “Drawing From Memory”. Each month we’ll invite some of the funniest people in the city to host a drawing competition and ask you to draw things such as, but not limited to, your favourite cartoon character, significant cultural moments, album covers, and whatever else our hosts feel like throwing at you.

The catch? You must draw everything from memory within 15 minutes, and absolutely zero references are allowed. Once you’re done, our hosts will round up your submissions, pick their favourites and share their thoughts on the best (and *politely* roast the worst). Sounds like a good time, right? We thought so too.

Pub Jams is back this Friday night with one of Vancouver’s hardest-working DJs, Christian Flores. Ahead of the session, we caught up with Christian and talked about what Pub Jams meant to him and ran through some tunes you might hear. We also followed suit with ’s theme of musical violence and asked him what his dirty dance floor pleasure was.

We also used this segment as an opportunity to test out our new stage lighting rig. Pretty sick, eh?

$10 boilermakers, late-night burgers, and $0 cover all night long. See you after 10 on Saturday night.
