Misty-the-Mannequin Musings #6
Hello Dear Friends,
What a week it has been! The frown face boss and her boss man have been reeling
over the death of their favourite musician, John Prine. They loved his songs!
Frown face boss shed a tear with the news of his death. That caused a bit of residual
sea mud and aloe to escape from a fold in her face. She was certainly sad.
As news of his death circulated throughout the world, the air waves across this
continent and beyond have been playing John Prine music. The boss man and boss
lady have been listening non-stop.
They reminisced about their yearly ‘John Prine Sunday Party’ which for over a decade
had musical friends gather and sing and play Prine songs. The boss lady always
requested her favourite, “Hello in There”.
She once quoted that song during a lecture she was giving at the University of
Pittsburgh many years ago. Her topic was ‘ the efficacy of postural alignment in seating
geriatrics’. She ended her presentation with a slide showing a woman propped up in a
wheelchair. The face of the elder was vacant and her eyes lacked lustre. That image
remained on the screen while she quoted the words of a John Prine song.
“So, if you’re walking down the street sometime, and meet some ancient hollow eyes,
please don’t just pass them by and stare as though you didn’t care, say “Hello in There,
Hello.” The audience was brought to tears way back then. And I’m certain many tears
were shed again this past week.
The headless ones and I think we are learning life lessons with this dreaded COVID
pandemic. One lesson might be, to stop and recognize friends, family, neighbours and
strangers alike. We will get through this together!
When the other boss came in yesterday and changed my clothes, I was grateful she
left me with my wine glass. I’ll toast you when you walk by my window!
I’m wearing a denim dress and colourful denim jacket. Perfect for a dinner date at
Risser’s Social House. When they re-open, try their Prime Rib with Yorkshire Pudding,
Au Jus, roasted potatoes and a medley of vegetables!
All the shop owners in our beautiful town are dreaming about re-opening! And, you can
bet that when we open our doors here at Caico-Mae, you will enter to the sounds of
music and laughter.
Until then, keep up with the social distancing while you pause at my window!
I’ll say “Hello in There, Hello!”
