A big shout-out to everyone that came out last night to our Downbeat - Jazz Fest Kickoff. Thank you Carrie Chesnutt, Deb Hypatia and Nicholas Otway for performing and creating a funky groove for the dance floor.

Thanks to all the staff at Wayla Bar for all their help in setting up and for serving the best drinks and smiles.

Tonight is the night! Downbeat - Jazz Fest Kickoff is here for a special night of Jazz, Funk and House fusion. We're kicking things off at Wayla Bar from 10pm-2am during the Beaches Jazz Festival.

We have the sensational Carrie Chesnutt on saxophone, the sultry vocals of Deborah Dowey (aka Deb Hypatia), the driving Parisian rhythms of Siavash Sadr Mahdavi on drums, the playful tones of Mike Smith on trombone and the smooth trumpet riffs of Neill MacLeod

Join us for this intimate Jazz-Club vibe fused with live interactive performances and groovin' house beats by DJ Neill MacLeod

Neill MacLeod / DJ Neill MacLeod has been playing a variety of instruments from young age but the trumpet has given him a voice to be heard in Toronto. DJing for the past 17 years, this artist has made his mark in Ottawa, Montreal and his home here in Toronto.

Neill has found a unique way to fuse his favorite genres of music such as Jazz, Funk, Blues with his DJing skills spinning House, Funk and Electro beats. He has been combining the digital world of beat-making and the analogue vibes of live performances to bring you a playful sound that matches his personality.

This DJ, musician and producer is excited to bring these worlds together with his fellow musicians, for a Downbeat night that's a perfect fit for the Beaches Jazz Festival weekend.

This Saturday we bring you a fusion of Jazz, Funk and House music with live performances at our Downbeat - Jazz Fest Kickoff.

The night will start with some classic jazz solos with Neill MacLeod on trumpet, Deborah Dowey (aka Deb Hypatia) on vocals, Carrie Chesnutt on sax, Siavash Sadr Mahdavi on drums and Mike Smith on Trombone.

DJ Neill MacLeod will be mixing these genres of music together with some of Toronto's finest musicians jamming over his smooth and sexy house music.
