Instruction On How To Set Up Facebook For Seniors
1.Go to www.facebook.com
2. The screen that greets you says “Sign up” on the bottom right hand side. Enter the required information.
3. Set up a profile picture.
4. Find people you know on Facebook to add as friends by typing their name in the search bar.
Account Settings
1.Click on account settings.
2. Make sure your information is correct.
3. If it is not the correct info, then click edit and change it to the correct info.
4. Confirm your email address by clicking ‘go to email’ at the top of the screen.
5. Then click on the email sent by Facebook and click on the link. Your email is now set up through Facebook.
Notification Settings
1. Click on ‘Account Settings’. On the left hand side of the page there should be a menu, click on ‘Notifications’.
2. Click ‘edit’ on the notifications you want to change.
3. Notifications can be annoying so you may want to make sure that you don’t receive any.
Privacy Settings
1.Change your privacy settings to ‘friends of friends’, ‘friends’, or ‘custom’ The best option is probably ‘friends’.
2. Change any other settings that you want to
Chatting
1.To access the chat features, you click on the bar at the bottom right hand corner labeled chat.
2. You will see people you have added.
3. If there is a green dot next to the person’s name or a phone, they are available to chat on Facebook.
4. If there is nothing next to the person’s name, they are not available to chat.
WHAT NOT TO DO
1.Don’t put your phone number on Facebook.
2. Don’t put your address.
3. Don’t put sensitive information on Facebook (like bank info).
4. Don’t add strangers.
5. Nothing is private on Facebook so think about what you say. It will be there forever.
6. Get permission before posting a picture of someone.
