In Newfoundland and Labrador it is legal for restaurants to purchase moose from a hunter with a valid licence.
There is a process that has to be followed.
The restaurant must have a permit from the department of wildlife to buy/ sell wild game( moose, bear, caribou, Arctic hare. )
The hunter after getting the animal would need to have the restaurants license number, animal weight and their license number. They would then call wildlife and get a one time seller permit to sell to the restaurant.
After the moose is purchased the restaurant has to keep all hunters selling permits and contacts. Every month an inventory has to be sent in to wildlife showing the amount sold and what’s still in inventory. There is also random onsite visits from conservation officers.
There is no charge for the hunter to get a permit to sell.
