Today I got a very special delivery: the second ever suspension of my liquor license! It's a bummer because I won't be able to host a Pride after-party like last year, but on the plus side I can actually ATTEND this year, something I am really looking forward to doing. Although you can read the sign for yourself, I thought I would give a brief explanation and details on each charge.
1 + 2. Failure to clear and sell afterhours. This related to an incident on Dec 22, 2018 where the cops walked in and found folks still drinking after 2:45am. For those who aren't familiar, last drink service should happen no later than 2am and all drinks must be cleared by 2:45.
3 + 4. Sell to an intoxicated person and permit drunkenness. For those not familiar it's illegal for someone to be intoxicated in a bar in our province, and although this does happen on very rare occasions (😅) this specific charge pertains to an incident that happened last October while I was still in Morocco. Yeah it takes that long for these things to filter on through.
5. Honesty and integrity. I am not sure what this one is about specifically, but the liquor inspectors and police are both well aware of the fact that I share surveillance footage from the bar even when it shows wrongdoing on my part and I have only ever told the truth to them even if it makes me look bad. I think this is the reason the suspension was only 2 weeks rather than indefinite.
In conclusion, I am truly sorry to my beautiful patrons who will be left with one less option for a watering hole for a little while, but the good news is the Grog will live to fight another day and I have been given yet another chance to get my act together and follow the rules, and I can only be grateful for that.
