Meadowlands has cancelled for Saturday

The Meadowlands Racetrack is cancelling live racing for tomorrow, Saturday, February 7.

“The strong winds on Saturday are expected to make the already historic low temperatures drop into the negatives,” said Big M Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir. “This will make the real feel temperature go below negative 15 degrees at post time. These temperatures put our horsemen, horsewomen, and our equine athletes at risk. For the health and safety of all participants, we decided to cancel our Saturday night race card.”

The Meadowlands Racetrack, the FanDuel Sportsbook, and Winners Bayonne will remain open for simulcasting and sports wagering.

The track’s Friday night card features a $7,802 Pick 6 carryover and the debut of the new PK8 with a $50,000 seeded pool.

Important Notice: The Sulky Room in Saint John will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout February. Additionally, we will be closed on Super Bowl Sunday, February 8. However, wagering remains available on HPI at all times.

Meadowlands has cancelled for the entire weekend!

Due to extremely low and potentially hazardous cold temperatures forecast for the Garden State this weekend, the Meadowlands Racetrack is cancelling live racing for Friday, January 30; Saturday, January 31; and Sunday, February 1.

Qualifiers, scheduled for Saturday at 4 pm, are also cancelled.

“I spoke with Mark Ford, President of the SBOANJ, at length today regarding the weather,” said Big M Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir. “Many of the horsemen expressed to Ford their concern with the negative temperatures our area would be feeling. Both the track and the SBOANJ want to ensure the health and wellness of our horsemen, women, and equine athletes. Based upon the feedback we were receiving, the decision was made to cancel live racing.”

The Meadowlands Racetrack, the FanDuel Sportsbook, and Winners Bayonne will remain open for simulcasting and sports wagering.

When racing resumes next Friday, February 6, there will be a $7,802 Pick 6 carryover. As always, check The Meadowlands’ website, playmeadowlands.com, for all racing, dining, event, and wagering information.
