Calling PEI writers!

Would you like to learn how to record your own audiobook?

I'm presenting a three hour session as part of Summerside ArtsFest for $50. This workshop is designed to teach people how to record and produce audiobooks, either by themselves or with someone else. We'll also talk about podcasts if anyone's interested. I'll have all the gear with me I usually use to record my material and walk participants through what is required, mic technique, what software to use, how to deal with noise, and so on. It'll be geared to the beginner and how to keep costs down.

Recording audiobooks is not free as some gear is required (e.g., a decent mic, headphones, laptop) but doing it yourself can save a lot of money. It is a lot of work but can be pretty rewarding too.
I've recorded my own audiobooks, and have recorded many stories, novels, radio plays and shows for CBC Radio, where I was a recording engineer for many years. I also host a podcast called Re-creative about the arts.

Hope to see you there!

A brief, behind-the-scenes marketing session with Donovan Street Press Inc.'s Marketing Manager, Rebecca, figuring out how to best market our wares. It seems that merely writing the best books ever written isn't enough. :-) (Tongue planted firmly in cheek there...)

Hello authors! Have you ever wanted to turn your book or story into an audiobook?

I'll be conducting an Audiobook Workshop -- basically, how to record an audiobook yourself -- the afternoon of Sunday, June 14th at the LeFurgey Cultural Centre in Summerside, in association with Summerside Arts Fest.

We'll cover the entire process from beginning to end: the gear, the recording, the edit, mastering, platforms and more. We'll talk about podcasts too.

Registration is $50 per participant. To register or find out more, email [email protected].

It's not too late to get your tickets for TriCon Halifax this weekend!

Not only will we have a vendor table to show off all of our quality books (including a limited print of one that's not even published yet!)…

And not only will we be travelling with authors Mark A. Rayner and Paul Burns...

We'll also be doing an author reading AND attending panels and Blue Pencil sessions.

Will we see you there?

Today’s writers have more options than ever before when it comes to sharing their work with the world – but how do you decide if independent or DIY publishing are the best fit for your work? And if so, what do you really need to know to successfully launch a self published or small press work? Joe Mahoney shares his journey as a retired broadcaster, author, and founder of Donovan Street Press Inc., a Riverview, New Brunswick based independent publisher dedicated to literary and genre-bending fiction.
