The final moments of The Velvet Olive, captured on film by , went missing in the mail—like memories slipping through fingers—but somehow, they found their way back. It’s been 12 weeks, though it feels like another lifetime. Thank you to everyone who found home, heart, and harmony within these walls. We carry you with us, always. ❤️🫒

It was a true honour to stand behind the Grade 4/5 students of St. Martin de Porres School to present the $1,400 cheque from our final art show ever held at The Velvet Olive.

The cheque may have looked small next to this incredible group of young artists — but the impact behind it is anything but. In just eight short days, we sold more than 100 pieces of your artwork. That’s more art than we sold in an entire year — and all from one show that was originally scheduled before we knew we’d have to close our doors.

Thanks to the support of your families, friends, and our community, and with the extra effort of your garage sale — plus a matching contribution from the community foundation — you collectively raised an incredible $3,600. That money is going to Saving Grace Animal Society and the Alberta Cancer Foundation, two causes that are going to benefit so much from your hard work and compassion.

As I said in my speech, you should all be be very proud. You used your creativity to help people and animals who need it most — and that’s something the world could always use more of. Thank you for inspiring OLIVE us.🫒❤️

We had to pass this show onto our friends at D2 Bar & Stage. Pierre is an amazing guitar player that doesn’t tour Canada often. Grab some tickets while you still can to this incredible show!

The last roll of film from our final week at The Velvet Olive. Every frame holds a moment—smiles through tears, long hugs, laughter in the corners, and music that brought us all home. Your voices and energy made this place what it was. It was never just a bar—it was a gathering, a pulse, a rhythm we moved through together. 🫒❤️

There are many hats to wear when you own The Velvet Olive—some figurative, some literal, and some tucked away in forgotten drawers. As we dig through the layers of history, we uncovered this little gem: a 20-year-old business card from the original owner, Penny. A sweet reminder of where it all began. 💛

On our final night at The Velvet Olive, we were surrounded by the very heartbeat of this place—the people who have shown up night after night, championing live music and creating something truly special with us. It was a night full of meaning, memory, and magic.

Special requests were honoured, surprise guests took the stage, and little Mazzy joined Shaela Miller for a verse that stopped time for just a moment. There was cake, balloons, and so many hugs—happy tears and sad ones all mingled together under the soft glow of the stage lights.

After the “open” sign flickered off one last time, people danced on the bar—just like Penny did all those years ago—closing this chapter with laughter, music, and wild, beautiful defiance.

We will miss this room and the community that made it feel like home. Though The Velvet Olive won’t reopen elsewhere, its spirit will echo in every show, every gathering, every place where music brings people together. Keep showing up. Keep believing in live music. It still matters. It always will.
