🔵 CHARGES LAID 🔵

In January 2026, a man was found deceased in his residence in the community of Coral Springs resulting from a drug overdose. In March 2026, investigators received information about an individual who was believed to have sold drugs to the deceased.

📍 Officers began an extensive investigation & on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, we executed a search warrant on a residence located in the 2500 block of 49 Avenue S.E. During the search, officers seized approx. 151.9 grams of hydromorphone, 7.5 grams of methamphetamine & 6.6 grams of fentanyl. A stolen e-bike worth over $9,000 was also recovered from the residence, which has since been returned to its rightful owner. One man was arrested from the scene.

As a result, Jesse KABATOFF, 44, of Calgary, was charged with:
📌 4 counts of drug trafficking
📌 5 counts of possession of property obtained by crime
📌 3 counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
📌 Breach of a release order

KABATOFF will next appear in court on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

The investigation remains ongoing & additional stolen property & drug-related charges are pending.

While there is insufficient evidence to lay charges in relation to the overdose death, the evidence found during the investigation identified drug traffickers who had previous contact with the deceased, which led our officers to conduct this investigation.

About overdose investigations

In 2023, the CPS began an OverDOSE pilot project, which utilized drug investigators to maintain consistency in all overdose or drug-related death investigations. In 2025, the Service formalized this pilot project with the creation of the Drug Investigations for Safer Communities (DISC) Team.

The DISC Team targets drug traffickers responsible for selling substances causing overdose deaths, as well as the sale of illicit drugs online. The DISC Team works closely with our existing Drug Undercover Street Team (DUST) to conduct investigations.
