Thirsty mountain bike riders are finishing up the Nanaimo leg of the BC Bike Race at the cidery today!

Pruning Little Baby Trees!
Typically when we’re grafting scions(fruit stock) on two root stock you want to have 2-3 dormant buds on your scion. The extra buds are a bit of an insurance program to make sure that at least one bud makes it. We’re pretty confident the grafts have taken now and we are pruning off the extra branches.

Irrigation setup!
I filmed this a week or so ago when we were supposed to get a bunch of rain that never came :(

Attack of the Voles!
Every winter we lose some trees to voles. The good news is, is that the trees are FAR more resilient than we thought. I expected this entire row to die off but it looks like they are pushing through and somehow still getting enough food and water. Hopefully the mulch and keeping down the grass will help keep the voles at bay.

Many Hands Makes for Light Work!
Last week we had VIU students out to the farm to lend a hand and learn about farming and local food production. For the few hours they were at the farm they accomplished an impressive amount of work. Thanks for all the help! The future of the orchard is all the better because of you folks!

We're also hosting open mic on Friday from 5:30-8:00pm and Jitensha Band on Saturday from 5:00-7:00pm. Come on out and celebrate great cider, good vibes, and, of course, Mom! Cinfully Delish food truck will also be open all weekend.
