Broadway Café is your destination to perform or simply enjoy your favorite show tunes in a supportive and intimate environment. These evenings offer performers of all levels an opportunity to sing the Broadway repertoire accompanied by a professional pianist. Come and sing, or simply enjoy the musical entertainment! Events happen every few months, check back often for news of the next Broadway Caf
é night at the Segal Centre. A: A sign-up sheet put out in the Segal Centre Lobby about 15 minutes before the show and anyone who wants to sing simply writes down their name and song choice. It is on a first-come-first-served basis and spots tend to fill up quickly. The sign-up sheets gets moved inside the room once the event has begun and stays open all night. Q: IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT? A: Broadway Café and Big Broadway Sing-Along are reserved for patrons 16+. However, we sometimes host special All-Ages Editions which will be marked as such. Q: DO I NEED MY OWN SHEET MUSIC? A: There is some sheet music available on hand but if you have something specific you'd like to sing, we highly recommend bringing your own sheet music. Q: HOW MANY TIMES CAN I SING? A: As it is a very popular event, we restrict it to only 1 song per person (this includes solos, duets, trios, groups...the only exception is if you'd like background singers or if you need someone to read out a line think "Be Prepared" from Lion King). Q: WHAT IF I WANT TO SING MORE THAN ONCE? A: We only allow a second song once everybody has had the chance the go once, but it doesn't happen very often. The only other exception to this rule is "Preview Numbers". Q: CAN I PROMO A SHOW I'M WORKING ON AT BROADWAY CAFÉ? A: Yes! If your group would like to perform a number to promote an upcoming show, please contact us in advance so that we can save you a spot. Show previews will not count towards your "first song" of the night, so your performers will get a chance to also sing a song of their choosing. Contact us through the Segal Centre's Broadway Café page or by emailing [email protected]
Q: WHAT SONG SHOULD I SING? A: As we sometimes don't have time to get through everybody, we do recommend keeping an intro speech brief and choosing shorter songs vs 8-minute-long epic ballads. Q: WHEN IS THE NEXT BROADWAY CAFÉ? A: Our full event schedule is listed here: http://bit.ly/2PbyQpI
Q: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ATTEND BROADWAY CAFÉ? A: Tickets at $10 online (no fees) until 7 p.m. the night of an event and $12 at the door. Get your ticket early! Q: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENT BETWEEN BROADWAY CAFÉ AND BIG BROADWAY SING-ALONG WITH NICK BURGESS? A: Broadway Café is like karaoke, Big Broadway Sing-Along is, as the name suggests, a sing-along. Lyrics are put up on a large screen and our Master of Ceremonies Nick Burgess leads the room in a raucous sing-along (think Marie's Crisis in New York). Both are very fun! Q: IS IT REALLY ONLY BROADWAY MUSIC? A: Yes, but our definition is very loose. Jukebox musicals and opera all very welcome!
