BIG FEELINGS / with Vance Gillis

Sundays / 4 weeks / 1-3pm

starts Sunday, May 21st, ends June 11th

4 Weeks / $100 + taxes

It’s time to get bold on stage! Have you ever sat in the audience captivated by a performance? Often times that can come down to the performer feeling uninhibited in their choices. Doesn’t that sound nice?
Emotions are a crucial part of performance and yet we so often tend the mute and repress them, to play things safe. This four-week class focuses on how to effectively play emotional characters without necessarily having to chew the scenery. Gain confidence and trust your impulses as you dazzle the audience with GREAT BIG FEELINGS.

Limited enrollment / improv experience required

Prerequisite: Level 4 (or its equivalent at any improv school); if you’re not sure if this includes you and your experience doing improv somewhere else, email [email protected] to find out.

Being a student at Variations Mile End allows you to attend the Every Thursday Improv Show for free during the weeks you are taking classes.

Variations Mile End is a performance school located at 5337 St. Laurent. All rooms are air filtered and air-conditioned.

The Terrors Of Misery’s Grove / Live Podcast Recording

Thursday, April 20, 2023
8:30 PM 9:30 PM

There's something wrong with the small town of Misery's Grove...

The fourth live podcast recording of The Terrors of Misery's Grove will dive right into the giallo sub-genre in the form of a radio play. Think a masked serial killer on the loose, often sporting a pair of gloves and a straight razor as their weapon of choice and picking off innocent victims at a dance school. This proto-slasher, mystery thriller sub-genre will make its Misery’s Grove debut.

The Terrors of Misery's Grove is a comedic horror anthology series set in the same small town community. Every episode will feature the same town but a different story.

Join us at Theatre VME on Thursday, April 20th to discover the terrifying secret of Misery's Grove. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You might even scream in horror at what's in store. Just remember: IT'S ONLY A RADIO PLAY!

The fourth episode will launch later in May 2023 on various podcast platforms. Click here to check out episodes one to three now.

Films in Focus: An Improvised Movie Review Show is back!

"Wonderful movie critic spoof...one of the funniest shows in town!
- Montreal Gazette

The hit improv comedy show Films in Focus returns to the stage at Montreal Improv for one night only with a new cast but the same Benji Manking as before!

Six seasoned performers improvise 'classic' scenes from completely made up films with titles suggested by the audience only to have their performances savaged by "esteemed" critic, Benji Manking. Action films, horror flicks, rom-coms, cult classics & award-winning festival fare, just because these films don't exist doesn't mean they can't be critiqued!

What’s The Commotion (theatre)?

The Commotion Theatre is the brainchild of Saima Ahmed, Jason Grimmer, David Kaufman, and Dimitri Kyres - the people behind Mprov, Indie Night, The Haunt, Precinct, The Summit, Hot Seat, Films in Focus, The Regulation Variety Time Slot, The Party Dinosaur Sketch Show, The Frank Mythic Hour, and The Sunday Sunday Improv Show. Our mission is to have fun and create new and regular productions and showcase up-and-coming as well as established comedic performers.

For one weekend of every month, the Commotion Theatre presents four shows in the Mini-Main, a black-box theatre located inside Mainline Theatre at 3997 St Laurent Blvd.
