Angry Hen Brewing Kaslo's Historic Craft Brewery

OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK: Mon-Tues 1pm-7pm | Wed-Sun Noon-8pm Angry Hen aims to be Kaslo’s living room.

Kaslo’s “Angry Hen” ferments her years of brewing experience with passion and outrage to bring you the finest of beers. Tradition mixed with innovation creates unique beers renowned for their solid good taste, seasonal inspirations, and queer sensibilities. Co-owner and brewer Shirley Warne has been part of British Columbia’s craft beer scene for a long time. After starting her brewing career in Ontario, she became the first brewer at Steamworks Brewpub in Vancouver when it opened in the 1990s, winning over the owner with a six-pack of her homebrew. She later consulted with several other brewery start-ups before opening Angry Hen. The focus is on good quality beer served in a comfortable, welcoming space.

Fall’s here: Time for b**r after chopping wood for winter. 🍂🪵

(Well, we got as far as putting the b**r on a log).

But it WAS delicious! Our Wild Rooster Hazy is packed with hops and big citrus flavour. 5.3% ABV, goes down easy, and pairs nicely with the thought of getting some work done.

Anyway, split the wood first. Then come reward yourself with a Rooster. We’ll keep the b**r cold. 🐔🍺

TURKEY DAY HOURS 🐔

We’ll be closing at 5pm Sunday, October 11, and staying closed all day Monday, October 12 so our crew can spend some time with their people 🧡🐓

One thing worth remembering: the version of this holiday many of us grew up learning doesn’t tell the whole story. Take a little time to look into its history and think about what this day means to you and your family, whether that’s the family you were born into or the one you’ve found along the way.

However you spend the long weekend, we hope there’s good company and a little time to put your feet up.

Back to regular hours after that. 🍺

10/09/2026

Pass ‘em around and give everyone somethin’ nice to talk about on turkey day 🍻

THE HENS ARE OUT DOING VERY SERIOUS RESEARCH 🐔

Our owners made another stop on their Island brewery tour, this time at Whistle Buoy Brewing in Victoria (Whistle Buoy Brewing).

Cassie got into the Eternally Dankful IPA, found herself a good spot for people watching, and saw some pretty incredible characters while she sipped!

But that’s one of the best parts of getting out there, isn’t it? Trying b**rs we haven’t made. Meeting the people making them. Seeing what’s new, what’s interesting, and what other breweries are excited about right now.

‘Cuz you can learn a lot over a pint.

And apparently you can see a lot of Victoria over one, too. 🍺

Thanks for having us, Whistle Buoy Brewing. We’ll keep the research going!

We are closed today, September 30, for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We’re taking the day to remember the children who were taken from their families, the Survivors who carry what happened with them, and the families, communities, and neighbours who continue to live with the effects of residential schools.

The federal act that created this day was made in response to Call to Action 80 from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Its purpose is pretty plain: honour Survivors and their families and communities, and keep the history and legacy of residential schools part of our public memory and our work toward reconciliation.

Here in Kaslo, we’re living on land with a much longer history than the town itself. Ktunaxa and Sinixt people used Kaslo Bay for camping, dry fishing, and making tools long before this became a mining and logging town, and the broader area has also been used by Syilx and Secwépemc peoples. Those histories, languages, cultures and relationships with this land are still here.

So what can we actually do?

Learn whose territory you’re living on. Learn the history of residential schools and the Indian Act. Listen to Indigenous people when they tell their own stories. Support Indigenous artists, businesses, educators and cultural organizations. Show up when you’re invited. Teach your kids. Pay attention to what’s happening here at home.

And don’t let today be the only day you do it.

If you’re in Kaslo, take a walk over to the library and borrow a book by an Indigenous author, educator or storyteller. They’ve also put together a whole page of Indigenous resources, from the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation and First Voices to courses, films, books and resources for learning about residential schools, Indigenous history, language and culture.

So yes. We’ll be closed today. We’ll see you tomorrow.

In the meantime, us and our little brood will listen, learn, remember, and make some room for the truth.

The hens have escaped the coop. 🐔

Our owners are heading over to the Island for a friend’s wedding, which seemed like a perfectly good excuse to go poking around some breweries while they’re there.

First stop: Category 12 Brewing! Category 12 Brewing

On the left we’ve got the Microdose IPA. On the right, Chromatic IPA. Both went down very nicely, thank you.

Rogan’s in the back there looking pretty pleased with himself.

We’re always curious about what other breweries are making, how they’re doing it, and who’s out there doing good work. A few b**rs, a few conversations, maybe a new idea or two to bring home.

Thanks for having us, Category 12. We’re looking forward to seeing what else the Island has got. 🍺🐓

Fall hours have one pretty good perk: the kids can stay ‘til close. 🐔

We’re open ‘til 8pm most nights, which means you can bring the whole gang down, grab a few b**rs, bring tons of snacks, pull out a board game, and settle in for the evening.

And yes, we said settle in.

Kids are welcome until 8pm, but they need to be with an adult the whole time, with their shoes on, and no crawling on the floor!

We also ask that they do their best to stay within arms reach of their guardian. We’ve had a couple little feet turn into big ol’ b**r spills, and cleaning b**r out of the floorboards is nobody’s idea of a good Tuesday.

We do reserve the right to ID anyone, too. Just so we’re all clear on that one.

Otherwise? Let ‘em have a little fun. This is the Hen-house. You don’t have to shush the kids every five minutes.

Bring the games. Bring your friends. Bring snacks. Bring the kids. Just keep the b**rs upright. 🍺🐓

Grandma’s got the kids. The b**r’s still cold. Seems like a good time for some music. 🎸

Open Mic — October 7, 6–9pm

Kevin John will be running the show, taking requests as always (though he’d much rather hear you sing).

We stay open an extra hour for open mic in the fall, so come have a late-night brew, listen to a few tunes, or get up there and make some noise.

No cover. Just music, b**r, and whoever wanders up to the mic. 🐔🍺

CLOSED UNTIL 5PM TODAY 🐔

We’re helping feed a whole lot of hungry bikers today, so we’re taking the afternoon to get cleaned up and ready for the evening.

Back open at 5pm, just in time for the racers to roll in for a well-earned b**r. 🍺🚴

See ya then.
