A Note to All of You, from our Founder:
"Hi Everyone! Hope you're all happy, healthy and still mostly sane! 😁❤️.
What's up with us? Well....My days and nights - although really complicated on the business front - have been spent with my Family in isolation for now over 14 days. Trying to quell my dark worries, just like all of you -and somehow cultivate some positive through this mess.
Time spent?
Listening to music - joyfully discovering new sensations and rediscovering old gems and rooting further even into their back catalogs, enjoying a ton of local artists and DJ's killing it on their FB Live feeds. Hanging with my Family - I can't begin tell you how much of an ironic gift this state of suspended life is to someone whose life is the Restaurant Business. Cooking up a nightly feast and sitting to break bread at Home, every night - again, this is an incredible and rare opportunity for me to be 'normal' and enjoy what some may take for granted. Learning to be STILL again,and in the moment - without a ton of all-surrounding and consuming social stimulus and the heavy responsibility that comes with that, in my normal work life. I'm actually getting good at that, that stillness. It's quite new to me, and I'm kinda enjoying it. 😀
Been thinking alot about this: I sure have SO MUCH to be thankful for, despite the looming threat and feeling of impending doom that comes with being self employed right now and owning a ridiculously vulnerable small business in this mess. And truly, it's practicing gratitude and mindfulness for what I DO HAVE that's giving me the most calm.
Sooooo, in other news......as some of our Friends and Guests are aware, we closed our Downtown restaurant RESPECT IS BURNING Kitchen & Bar as well as our RED FANG TAVERN and DURHAM HALL a few days before the province mandated closures. I won't get back into that, but suffice it to say we felt good about that decision - it guaranteed the well being of our Durham Social Teams and our Patrons, at least on our grounds and operations.
We also elected to NOT offer Takeaway, for the same reasons. On our terms at least, safest for All. The problem with being safe then, is of course no activity - and no sales. That's - of course - a recipe for disaster.
So, we thought we'd offer our Respect is Burning Kitchen and Bar GIFT CARDS - with several cool BONUSES and added $$$ values - to our Guests and Friends at this point. It's simple, valuable, guaranteed delicious, and forward thinking.

We really could use your support at this time, and we're prepared to reward you if you'd graciously choose to help us.
Truth is, we're still standing in 2020 because despite all of the challenges (and there's been some doozies!) we've faced in the past near 20 years, our Community - that's all of YOU - have been there with us this whole amazing journey. And we carry that gratefully with us every single day. ❤️🥰🥳
We've got a lot to show you all still, and with your help we'll get to celebrate with all of you soon again, in Downtown Style!
