Meet Chef Ben. Originally from the UK, Ben moved to Canada in 2004 and studied Culinary Management at Humber College. He later made a big move to Taiwan to work towards a degree in Hospitality and Tourism, before returning to London to work at the Hilton Hotel and cook at a number of restaurants along the way.

After years of travel and experience, he decided it was time to be closer to family and made his way back to Canada. Landing near Orillia, Ben opened The Common Stove and The Hog and Penny, before moving on to The Pine in Creemore.

Currently, Ben and his partner are living on a beautiful farm in Washago, spending time in the garden and exploring what it means to eat and cook locally.

He is keen to be cooking for his community again and looks forward to sharing his passion for food. As a dear friend once put it, his cooking is simply "food you want to eat" and that's exactly what he plans to bring to you at Lamorna in Gravenhurst.

Some of you may have noticed or heard that The Oar is reinventing itself - again!⁠

Since we purchased the restaurant in 2007 we have prided ourselves in being a friendly, welcoming place to gather with friends and family.

Whether that was as North Restaurant - a white linen fine dining room, or as The Oar - a more casual environment - we've worked hard to provide outstanding and friendly service with superior food and beverages, while being proud and committed community members.⁠

For our next evolution we welcome the talented Chef Ben Kersley. Ben is stepping in to bring together two brands - The Oar and its amazing people with 'Lamorna' - which will be 'in residence' at The Oar starting next Wednesday, April 29. ⁠

Lamorna is a place for everyone. They are working with some incredible farmers and purveyors to cook honest and local food. Expect classics and just delicious proper cooking highlighting the best of what is in Canada. ⁠
