The Lunar Rogue Pub

The Lunar Rogue Pub A Maritime Pub, an old tradition done right! The Lunar Rogue Pub was named after New Brunswick's most celebrated rogue Henry Moore Smith (circa 1815, aka.
(927)

Henry Moon). It opened its doors at 625 King Street in downtown Fredericton at 4:00pm on May 11, 1989. The Lunar Rogue Pub was designed by Donna Webber in the Loyalist/Colonial style unique to the Lower Saint John River Valley and as depicted at New Brunswick's famous King's Landing Historic Settlement for which David Webber was the original designer. Since 1989, "the Rogue" has become the standar

d that others try to reach. It is most noted for the quality of its staff and the outstanding service they provide. That's coupled with its variety of products on tap, high quality wines by the glass and the availability of cocktail favourites, to over 200 Single Malts and Premium Blends, all backed with the quality of food and atmosphere you'd expect "down east". It truly provides "quality without pretence" and lives up to its description as "...a Maritime pub, an old tradition done right". Over the years, the people of Fredericton have made The Lunar Rogue Pub their "local pub", and bring visiting family, friends and associates to "the Rogue" with pride. It is where friends meet each day. Indeed, many of the decorative mugs which hang behind the Pub's bar actually belong to patrons who leave one of their favourite personal mugs there for their own use, much in keeping with the old tradition among British sailors in their home ports. To Frederictonians, the coming of spring is marked each year by the day that the Lunar Rogue Pub's outdoor patio is put in place. Locally owned, the Staff and Management understand that The Lunar Rogue Pub is "an original...one of a kind", unique to Fredericton and an important part of the City. We take our responsibility to the people of Fredericton very seriously ...every day.

The final whisky to be poured at Saturday’s ‘Oldest Distilleries’ tasting is:

Strathisla 12 YO

This distillery doesn’t claim to be the oldest distillery in Scotland, but it does insist that it is the oldest continuously operating distillery in the north of Scotland ( cause 1786 to now isn’t ’that’ long ago😉)
It’s also famed for its beautiful buildings.

Its bold honey and toffee flavours make this a coveted whisky for use in blends, making the Strathisla 12 its only core range single malt outside of distillery exclusives.

Tasting notes:
- Rich, fruity, with hay on the nose
- Mellow, nutty sweetness on the palate
- Rich, subtle finish

Join us for an afternoon tasting led by Steven Lewis, where we will explore some of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland, each with centuries of craft, character, and tradition behind every pour.

Tickets available in person at The Lunar Rogue Pub, or via Eventbrite.

For Whisky Wednesday this week we shine a spotlight on Islay. This whisky will be poured as part of our ‘Oldest Distilleries’ tasting this Saturday.

Bowmore 12YO

Bowmore sits on Islay, and has that characteristic peat flavour that is so polarizing to whisky enthusiasts.

Bowmore also has maturation vaults that sit both at and below sea level, providing interaction with cold sea air which heightens the brine character found in many Islay whiskies

Another distillery with attention to tradition and detail, Bowmore continues to hand turn a portion of their malted barley.

Bowmore Single Malt Whisky 12YO Sherry tasting notes:

- Dried fruits, light smoke, sweet almond on nose
- Oak, nutmeg on the palate with a long finish

This is just one of the whiskies being poured at our ‘Oldest Distilleries’ tasting, June 6, 2026. Hosted by Steven Lewis.
This fun event promises to be both informative and entertaining.

Tickets are available in person at The Lunar Rogue, or on Eventbrite.

Today we are featuring Glen Moray Whisky 12 YO

Originally a brewery, Glen Moray transitioned to a distillery in 1897. ( 1897!!! )

Since then, they have had only 5 master distillers. One of Scotlands largest distilleries, Glen Moray is well known for its signature fruity and very approachable style.

Tasting notes:

- Clover honey, cereal grain on the nose
- Creamy palate, green herbs, winter spice
- Quick, refreshing finish

Balblair 2000

As we continue to showcase the oldest distilleries of Scotland, our next dram is from Balblair.

Balblair is located in a region of Scotland that is often claimed to have the cleanest air, and adopted for awhile a vintage naming convention vs an age statement. The Balblair 2000 was therefore distilled in 2000, and bottled across multiple releases. Balblair also prides themselves on traditional methods, and this whisky is un chill-filtered and no colouring is added.

Tasting notes.
- Baked red apples, oak, fruitcake and ripe stonefruit on the nose
- Slight oily texture, hardwood, tinned pineapples, orange peel and honey on the palate
- Long finish with sweetness and creaminess, bitter chocolate

This is just one of the whiskies being poured at our Oldest Distilleries tasting on June 6, hosted by Steven Lewis.

Tickets are available at the Pub or via Eventbrite.

Ardbeg is a shining example of balance from Islay. It is known for its peat forward whisky. A combination of unique production processes and a whisky maker with a keen sense of playfulness give the distillery, and its whisky, a whimsical flair.

This year’s Ardbeg Day theme is La Dolce Vita, and while we don’t have the Ardbeg Dolce release yet, we do have 16 different expressions we would be happy to pour you.

Tasting notes
- while heavy, Ardbeg is also known for its fruity, sweet character or as brand ambassador calls it - “sweety-peaty”.
-Ardbeg stills have a unique purifier which collects and redistills vapours, turned off only once for their “heavy vapours” release.
-notable vehicles at the distillery include an orange county chopper, a hot rod tractor, and a very unique sea creature ice cream truck.

Ardbeg really does have something to offer most everyone.
