If you ever stepped foot in Longshots, chances are you heard “SHAM-WOW!” or "IS IT WRONG?" shouted from the front-right seat at the bar. That was Dave’s spot. Always.
During my time at Longshots, I undeniably spent more time with him than I did with my family and friends. Day after day, year after year—he was there. And in that time, I heard so much about his life. His love for his parents and family (especially his sister) came through every time he talked about them. His admiration for them was palpable.
He had stories—endless stories. Some wild, some sad, but most made you laugh out loud. He was also incredibly smart. Hilarious in that sharp, dry way that could cut through a room. He was a great writer, too. I shared things I’d written with him, and I always respected his opinion. Did I mention he was hilarious?!
He knew a lot—music, sports, cars, fishing, golf, politics... He could talk about anything and usually had a hot take you hadn’t thought of.
I wish I remembered more of our conversations—there were so many. But as the saying goes, people forget what you said, but they never forget how you made them feel. And I know I speak for all the staff when I say that Dave made us feel listened to. Protected. Valued. And totally at home.
Of course, he could be a pain in the ass. No denying that. But it was part of the deal.... part of the charm. You knew it was coming, and honestly, you’d miss it when it wasn’t there. Dave was undeniably our favourite pain in the ass!
A lot changes in life. People drift, places close, and things fade. But our love for Dave won’t.
Rest easy, David Rowbottom
Rowbottom for Mayor!
A special thank you to the Tavern on Main for hosting the memorial for Dave this afternoon. We are sending tons of love and gratitude to the Longshots staff who were able to attend
