Human ingenuity knows no bounds

Long before scuba gear or submarines, the Romans conquered the depths. Around 2,000 years ago, they developed the technology to build underwater structures, reshaping the ancient world’s coastlines.

Specialized divers known as urinatores — skilled in holding their breath and working below the surface — played a vital role in these projects. They helped clear seabeds, lift submerged materials, and guide massive wooden caissons that served as underwater molds.

The genius behind it all lay in Roman concrete, a mixture of lime and volcanic ash (pozzolana). When this blend touched seawater, it triggered a chemical reaction that created incredibly durable minerals, making the cement stronger over time. Unlike modern concrete, which erodes, Roman concrete actually grows harder the longer it stays submerged.

One of the greatest feats of this engineering was Herod the Great’s port at Caesarea Maritima — a massive harbor built almost entirely below sea level. Despite centuries of waves and earthquakes, its ruins still stand beneath the Mediterranean.

Roman ingenuity didn’t just conquer land — it built empires that reached beneath the sea.

War is just so senseless

‘The Truce’ by Jake Frood

In the depths of war’s relentless grind,
Amid the trenches’ frozen bind,
A fleeting peace, a fragile thread,
Wove through the fields where soldiers bled.

December’s frost, a bitter shroud,
Shook the earth where guns roared loud.
Yet on that night, a hush fell still,
As war’s cruel heart bent to human will.

From German lines a carol rose,
Soft and pure, it broke the throes.
“Stille Nacht,” so haunting sweet,
Drew weary foes from their cold retreat.

The British voices joined the air,
Their song an answer, a solemn prayer.
Silent night, a sacred sound,
Bound mortal foes on common ground.

Cautious steps through no man’s land,
With trembling hearts, they dared to stand.
A handshake here, a smile there,
Warriors laid their burdens bare.

They shared their rations, bread, and wine,
Traded tokens, gifts benign.
In that moment, hatred ceased,
And men remembered they were beasts.

A football match on barren soil,
An hour’s reprieve from blood and toil.
The ball rolled free, the laughter soared,
For once, no tally of lives was scored.

But dawn returned with its cruel decree,
The truce a dream, not meant to be.
The guns awoke, the orders came,
And men resumed their deadly game.

Yet deep within each soldier’s heart,
The memory stayed, a sacred part,
Of Christmas Eve when stars aligned,
And peace revealed the ties that bind.

A fleeting glimpse, a whispered plea,
Of what the world, at peace, could be.
Though fleeting, it lingers still
The truce that proved the human will.

Never will I be more then perfect in my imperfection NOT because I can do anything about it BUT God. Only because He sees me so dispute myself. Can we heal YES! Can we and do we need to crawl into His lap YES again. Is there HOPE always thru faith.

Transformation is a process. Accountability is ours to own and shed with Gods help. We all stumble. We all falter. We all MISS step.
