SUBMISSION CALL: Dancing in the Park Online 2021

We are looking for short dance films between 2-8mins of length from emerging artists (at any age!) to be featured in this year's programming. This year, 12 short films will be curated by a team of four main stage artists. The festival will offer an honorarium of $166.66 CAN for those selected. Selected artists will be presented during DITPO/21 from September 16-19, 2021 and participate in a talk-back with one of the four main stage artists moderating.

Submission Requirements:
- Must be 2-8mins in length
- You can submit more than one film - this does not mean that one or all of your submitted films will be selected (max 2 films submitted per applicant).
- Films must be already completed, OR in the process of completion.
- Films must be submitted through attached google form on or before July 12, 2021.
***If submitting multiple films, please fill out a separate form for each entry.

This festival is the 2nd iteration of Dancing in the Park Online (DITPO) presented for free on Youtube by Edmonton Dance Theatre from September 16-19, 2021.

Dancing in the Park Online’s Mandate is to provide a platform for the short spontaneous presentation of digital work. These films can be experimental, extreme, outrageous, bold, simple, heroic, charged, kind, peanut buttery, haphazard to no one, and even geothermal! We encourage anyone who considers their work under the categorically broad diaspora of ‘DANCE ’ to submit!

If you are part of the IBPOC, LGBTQ2+ communities, or an artist with a disability, well we want to see YOU!

With DITPO, we are actively engaging in dismantling gatekeeping practises within the realm of white contemporary western dance traditions/binaries/practises. It is important to us that the stories we promote, and choose to tell, allow those who have been unseen, to become seen. We have all lived within the white dominant narrative. We all have the stain of it embedded in our histories. It’s high time to listen to different stories, and witness different images, to challenge the ‘normal’ and carve a new narrative.

Participants will be informed by July 18, 2021 of the results.
