A piece of Calgary’s story, in every stone 🏛️✨

If you’ve ever walked through the doors of Thomsons, you may have noticed the warm golden sandstone that frames our entrance. It’s more than beautiful architecture, it’s a connection to Calgary’s past.

After the Great Fire of 1886, Calgary began rebuilding with locally quarried sandstone, giving the city its enduring nickname: “The Sandstone City.” Our building, dating back to 1893, is a piece of that remarkable history.

Long before Thomsons welcomed guests for dinner and drinks, this space was part of Calgary’s bustling downtown: home to a bookstore, retail shops, furniture and hardware stores, and even banking services.

Today, those historic stones remain, standing alongside a modern dining experience and reminding us that some of Calgary’s best stories are built to last.

Meet Kabir Morady, Outlets Manager at Thomsons 👋

For Kabir, hospitality has always been about one thing: people. He was drawn to the industry by the opportunity to create memorable experiences, whether that means helping a guest celebrate a special moment, turning a challenge into a positive experience, or supporting a colleague as they grow.

What he loves most about his role at Thomsons? Creating memorable guest experiences and developing his team. Seeing colleagues build confidence, grow their skills, and advance in their careers is one of the most rewarding parts of his job.

And what makes the Thomsons team special? According to Kabir, it’s the people behind the experience:

“It's not just great food or service. It is the people behind the experience and how they work together to create memorable moments for guests.”

Teamwork, passion, consistency, communication, adaptability, respect, inclusion and a commitment to excellence are what he believes make a truly exceptional hospitality team.

🍔 His Thomsons favourite? The Stephen Avenue Smash Burger: a deceptively simple dish that, in Kabir’s words, tells you a lot about a kitchen because it’s “hard to do really well.”

For a first-time guest, he recommends the Thomsons Signature Steak Sandwich, featuring 6oz grilled AAA beef striploin, baby arugula, horseradish aioli, crispy onion strings, toasted focaccia and pink peppercorn sauce. 🥩

And on Sundays? He says to skip the menu and head straight for the Sunday Brunch Buffet. 😉

If Kabir had to describe Thomsons in three words: It’s…Fresh, local and inviting.
