Well week 5 is complete, finished, kaput, annihilated so thoroughly that Week 6 was last spotted fleeing the scene in flip-flops, leaving behind only a cloud of chalk dust and a faint whimper. But fear not… we will track down Week 6 and give it the same treatment. right after the May long weekend with its suspiciously overcooked hamburgers and enough BBQ smoke that the people on the international space station are envious.
We had 21 brave warriors show up, battling the brutal 18-degree “Canadian heatwave,” while courageously enduring clouds that dared to block those pesky UV rays. Across, 6 glorious green felt covered slate battlefields, cue balls flew (literally), egos were bruised, and excuses were produced at an impressive pace. “Record speed” might be slightly exaggerated… but this is pool league storytelling, not a courtroom.
We also welcomed a newcomer to our little league — although “newcomer” may be misleading since he’s already a certified ninja assassin in our other leagues. Welcome Don Randal! Great to have you out, and hopefully you’ll return for more chaos and emotional damage.
Special accolades are required because TWO players hit season-high victories this week. Cassandra and Lori each racked up 4 wins against some absolute ball-busting competition. I tried booking last week’s marching band for a victory parade for you both, but apparently, they have “standards” and were unavailable. So instead, I hired a Mariachi band. Good news: they’re playing for free, which leaves room in the budget for confetti cannons and midnight margaritas.
Top gun of the night was Down Town Randy Brown with an impressive 5 wins. (Insert standing ovation, fireworks, and someone crying proudly in the background here.)
Meanwhile, the “No Stats Rule” was treated more like a gentle suggestion by a couple of players. Jason pulled off a table run, while Jim H laughed in the face of moderation and doubled it with 2 table runs. Authorities are investigating.
Huge thanks to everyone who came out, had fun, and survived another week of organized pool-related madness. Hopefully we’ll see everyone again once Week 6 is captured and brought back for questioning. Special thanks to Mina, who worked tirelessly to keep our hydration levels just barely ahead of our bad decisions.
Reminder: NO POOL next week because of the May long weekend. Please use the extra time responsibly… or at least entertainingly. And a shameless plug for the elks Friday nights; the tables are open and we have a MEAT DRAW so you can fill your BBQ this weekend!!
