Another unforgettable Indigenous tourism experience at Pretzel, Pint & Pickle yesterday inside Founders’ Food Hall and Market

We welcomed visitors with a Land Acknowledgement, grounding ourselves in the history of Epekwitk (Prince Edward Island) and recognizing the deep connection Indigenous Peoples have to this land and its waters.

From there, the conversation naturally flowed into Métis culture, storytelling, and the powerful role that food and beverage play in bringing people together. Around the table, strangers quickly became friends as stories, laughter, local flavours, and shared experiences connected people from different backgrounds and different parts of the world.

For generations, gathering around food and beverage has been a way to build relationships, share knowledge, and strengthen community. Yesterday was a reflection of that tradition in a modern setting a reminder that Indigenous tourism is not only about looking back at history, but also about creating meaningful connections today.

This is what the next generation of Indigenous tourism looks like on Prince Edward Island: authentic conversations, cultural sharing, community connection, and welcoming everyone to the table.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Pretzel, Pint & Pickle. Your curiosity, respect, and willingness to learn helped make the experience special. Yesterday we welcomed another incredible cruise ship group to Founders’ Food Hall and Market but this season, we’re doing more than serving great beer.

After spending time learning and travelling with ITAC (Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada) earlier in the year, we challenged ourselves to create experiences that felt more grounded, more honest, and more reflective of who we are as Indigenous people here on PEI.

We welcomed our guests with an authentic land acknowledgement, shared stories about our Métis roots, and opened real conversations about how tourism can build connection when culture is shared with pride, respect, and heart.

What followed was exactly what hospitality should be.

Strangers became friends over pints.
People laughed.
People listened.
People learned.
And together, we celebrated the incredible breweries and makers that make Prince Edward Island so special.

This is Indigenous tourism to us.

Not a performance.
Not a script.
Just real people sharing real stories, local flavours, and East Coast hospitality in a way that feels genuine.

Last weekend was one of those moments you do not forget.

Not because it was flashy.
Not because it was perfect.
But because it was real.

Our team came together, opened up, laughed, listened, learned, and reminded each other what great hospitality is actually built on.

It is not built on profits first.
It is not built on ego.
It is not built on titles, pressure, or who can work the hardest.

It is built on people.

People who feel seen.
People who feel safe.
People who feel proud to show up.
People who know they are part of something bigger than a shift, a schedule, or a paycheque.

Last night’s team-building training was a huge success because it strengthened the thing that matters most:

Our culture.

A strong team does not happen by accident. It is built over time through trust, respect, accountability, laughter, hard conversations, and a shared belief that we can all grow together.

The truth is, profits are important. But they are not the soul of a business.

People are.

And when you put people first, genuinely, consistently, and from the heart! The business becomes stronger in ways no spreadsheet can measure.
