FARMER FALLOON

>> Taking a trip down 'Memorial' lane with Foxwarren hockey superstar Pat Falloon, who was always a farmer first

At each stage of his hockey career, Pat Falloon excelled as the new guy.
As an underage invitee to the Regina Pats' training camp, Falloon was the 14-year-old who Bob Strumm just had to find a way to list.
As a star in the Western Hockey League, Falloon was an 18-year-old leading his team to a 1991 Memorial Cup title.
As an NHL rookie, Falloon was the 19-year-old who led the expansion San Jose Sharks with 25 goals.
"Late birthday," said Falloon, who will turn 48 on Sept. 22. "Through most of my years, I was the younger one."
And he was always one with a talent for scoring that scouts just loved.
Now, though, Falloon is more farmer than forward. Back on his family farm in Manitoba, where they grow wheat, soybeans and flaxseed, this is his favourite time of year.
"Harvest, reaping what you sow," he said. "If you're not a farmer you maybe don't understand it, but that's the best part. Getting the bins full. It's just the way I was born and raised."

'EVERYBODY LOVES CASS'

>> Described by her teammates as the 'nicest person they know', Foxwarren's Cass Lyttle is always ready to do whatever it takes

Hockey morning in Canada.
It might not sound as catchy as the long-time Canadian television juggernaut, but the head coach of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology women's hockey team has great morning memories of Foxwarren's Cass Lyttle. Stef Thomson, who leads the Edmonton school squad, said the team met early on Tuesday mornings for skill sessions this past season.
"Every single week at 7:30 a.m., regardless of a morning exam or maybe battling off a cold, she was always there ready to go with a smile," Thomson said. "I am so grateful for the opportunity to coach Cass and to have her on our team as a leader. Cass is a special player and makes our program a better place."
Thomson said the daughter of Kevin and Jen Lyttle is often described by her teammates as the "nicest person they know", "natural leader", and "everyone loves Cass". The third-year student-athlete served as an assistant captain for the second straight season.
"She sets a great example for younger players on how to manage their time as student-athletes, her commitment to improving as a player, and exemplifying the importance of a positive attitude," Thomson said. "She will be the first to admit that she is not the most vocal leader, but that hasn't stopped her teammates from recognizing her long lists of strengths as a leader."
